Jan 26, 2012 6 0 18,510 Hello, I am an end-user rather than a pc expert. Please give me your advice which CPU (G630 or i3-2120) is better for one who need mutli-tasking on internet surfing and photo editing and listening to MP3 and might need to burn some DVD as well. I have upgrade from Intel E7500 to G630 but found not much improvement. Will i3-2120 better ? or any other recommendation for CPU less than $150. I am using WIN-XP with 4GMb ram Thanks for all advice. Sort by date Sort by votes WR2

Nov 18, 2005 27,923 6 64,715 THG article: Best Gaming CPUs For The Money: March 2012 So you're not gaming but the article has a chart that shows the relative performance rankings between different CPUs: Gaming CPU Hierarchy Chart In the chart your old E7500 is just one tier below the G630 you used to replace it. That helps explain why you noticed so little improvement. The i3-2120 is just one extra tier higher than G630. (a 2 tier jump over the E7500) And the general guidance in the article is for an upgrade to be worthwhile - "I don’t recommend upgrading your CPU unless the potential replacement is at least three tiers higher." Apr 7, 2011 1,345 0 19,460 AFAIK, the i3-2120 would be a superior CPU for video-editing, but I'm not sure about photo editing. You may need to punch a bit higher to get a noticeable difference. Upvote 0 Downvote G

the pentium G630 is 2 cores, 2 threads without quick sync @ 2.7Ghz the i3 2120 is 2 cores, 4 threads with quick sync @ 3.3Ghz the two other threads of the i3 would help with SOME mulitasking . .a true quad core would be better for that but the i3 would be a gain over the G630. the quick sync helps with encoding video, but not a lot of software is optimized for quick sync to transcode for dvds, just DVD FAB right now. but i have always been a fan of convertX to dvd anyhow. quick sync is more for converting vidoe for you tube or iphones and mobile devices. just the difference in speed, the 2.7 to 3.3 would help you see a performance difference in photoshop but mind blowing. if there is ANY chance you could afford a few more bucks and get an i5 2300 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115076 $179.99 even though the clock speed is a little slower, the 4 cores instead of 2 would be a MUCH bigger difference. May be I am wrong, it seems that the i3-2120 is 3 tiers up the G630. If I am right, then should I use i3-2120 or 2100, thanks Upvote 0 Downvote You must log in or register to reply here.
