VWR.man V I have a 2017 GTI Sport and the noise level on the inside is pretty annoying. Seems like it is getting worse than when new...or maybe I'm finally beyond the new car excitement stage. Did they remove/reduce the undercarpet insulation to save weight? Are the Bridgestone Potenzas really this loud? Should I undercoat? Should I put sound mats in the doors? THANKS. #1 · Dec 7, 2019 I have a 2017 GTI Sport and the noise level on the inside is pretty annoying. AWE Track exhaust might help that problem. You might want to get some tires rated for low road noise. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk #3 · Dec 8, 2019 My experience with the Mk7 GTI and Golf R is that they are very quiet with low road noise. If the noise level has changed since new, then likely worn tires. #4 · Dec 9, 2019 I would check if you have a hood insulation. Just open the hood and look if you have a black padding under it. It makes a big difference. When I purchased my MK7 Golf I did test-drive a GTI which did not have the hood insulation and it was clearly louder in the cabin. The human brain can play some silly tricks. 0 Reply #6 · Dec 9, 2019 It’s probably your tires wearing down. #7 · Dec 9, 2019 :thumbup: 0 Reply #8 · Dec 9, 2019 (Edited) Agree with XM. Unless it’s always seemed loud it’s likely the (crappy) ‘Stones. #9 · Dec 9, 2019 Have you disabled the Sountaktor? #10 · Dec 9, 2019 That system in my 2016 Golf R sounds great and certainly does not make the interior noisy. 0 Reply #11 · Dec 9, 2019 Definitely a product of older/worn tires. #12 · Dec 10, 2019 I have a 2017 sport with the bridgestone potenzas as well. I have 24,xxx miles and the tire noise is real bad. They were rotated every 8k, and are close to the wear bars, so I am gonna be swapping tires soon to see if it is an immediate difference. I always attributed it to possible uneven wear because I was a victim of the fabled "strut pucks" for 2xxx miles or so. Sounds like it is just the potenzas... #13 · Dec 10, 2019 My Sport is definitely getting louder as the tires wear, at ~17.5K now. It has the Bridgestones. But my solution is simple, I just drive my Fiata around for a while, then when I get back in the GTI it seems like a Rolls-Royce! :D #16 · Dec 11, 2019  0 Reply #14 · Dec 10, 2019 If new tires does not help, replace the wheel bearings. This is a common issue sadly #15 · Dec 10, 2019

Support info for that? The cases of failed wheel bearing on the Mk7 Golf any different percentage than any other make? 0 Reply #17 · Dec 11, 2019 Not to hijack thread, but any recommendations on a quiet summer tire? Or if a quiet ride trumps grip, is one better off on all-seasons from a noise standpoint even if no winter driving is anticipated? - Mark #18 · Dec 11, 2019 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. /thread. Seriously though, they're the best blend of grip, longevity, and comfort/refinement. Best upgrade you can make on any car. The OEM VW pad works fine, but I have found that the Butyl rubber foil- backed insulation( i.e. Dynamat) works better, but does not look as nice. FYI, you do not have to coat the entire surface with Butyl rubber--one square inch square es every 6 or 8 square inches works just as well. It will look like square Polka dots once installed. #21 · Dec 15, 2019
