NEW DELHI: Delhi Daredevils put in yet another clinical performance to record their second win of the Indian Premier League 2017 as they beat Kings XI Punjab by 51 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. Thanks to a half-century from Sam Billings and a quickfire 22-ball 39* from Corey Anderson, DD, playing their first home game of the season, posted a huge 188/6 and then produced a terrific display with the ball too, ripping apart the KXIP batting line-up to keep them to 137/9 in 20 overs. With their second win of the season and on account of a good net run-rate, DD have climbed up to third spot in the points tally.1x1 pollsHere we look at the five major takeaways from the matchA new pair, a fresh startDelhi Daredevils dropped Aditya Tare who failed in the first two matches and welcomed Shreyas Iyer who missed out those games because of chicken pox. Delhi, playing their first home game of the season, thus took field with a fresh opening pair in Sanju Samson and Sam Billings. And they were off to a brisk start as the last-match centurion Samson reeled off two fours in the first over, bowled by Sandeep Sharma. Billing chimed in with consecutive fours in the next over off Mohit Sharma. Axar Patel halted their momentum but it was restored when Varun Aaron was thumped for three fours in three consecutive balls by Billings. A six from Samson ended the Powerplay overs and before KC Cariappa struck for the visitors, the opening pair had added 53 – Delhi's first 50-plus stand in eight matches. KXIP keep DD in check but Billings hits fiftyHowever, KXIP were quick to hit DD back with two quick blows in five balls. Cariappa, playing in his first match of the season, removed Samson – a leading edge flying to Eoin Morgan at long-off. Aaron was given a cold reception in the Powerplay but in his second spell, he extended Karun Nair's terrible run with the bat having him caught by a diving Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps. Billings went quiet after those dismissals but Iyer kept the pressure in check, punishing an erring Aaron with two fours and so he kept the run-rate hovering around eight per over. He soon holed out to Morgan for 22. However, Billings was determined to make this innings count and went on to record his second IPL fifty. He was well set and key to DD's hopes of a big finish but a mishit ended his knock at 55.Anderson blazesCorey Anderson is one of the big-hitting batsmen in international cricket. That he has the second fastest ODI century is a testament to his talent and why he is such a highly rated batsman. Chris Morris, who blasted 38 off 9 balls against Rising Pune Supergiant, was out for 16. So the responsibility of a flourishing end fell on Anderson's shoulders and he came out with flying colours in front of a packed home crowd. Axar was the first to bore the brunt of his assault, clattered for two sixes off consecutive deliveries in the penultimate over. In the final over after Pat Cummins used the long handle to score two fours off Sandeep, Anderson provided the finishing touches in glorious style with a four and a pull for a six over square leg region. He ended unbeaten on 39 off 22 as DD posted a big total. KXIP's early surrenderKings XI Punjab surrendered to DD bowlers within the Powerplay overs itself. In a stark contrast to DD, KXIP, even though they managed a decent 40 runs before the fielding restrictions were lifted, but ended up losing three wickets to their opponents' zero. Shahbaz Nadeem was the wrecker-in-chief removing Manan Vohra and Wriddhiman Shaha in consecutive overs. The chase had suffered an early jolt from which the visitors never recovered. A partnership did take shape between Morgan and former skipper David Miller. Morgan tried his best to change the mood with two fours in three deliveries of Pat Cummins but the Australian pacer struck back in the same over removing him for 22. Captain Maxwell who has been in good run this season too failed, registering a two-ball duck. Their biggest resistance came from the pair of Axar and Mohit Sharma who together added 45 runs for the seventh wicket. But by then it was already too late as KXIP were already out of chase losing six wickets before the duo got together.Another big win for DDIn their previous match, Delhi Daredevils humbled Rising Pune Supergiant by 97 runs – their biggest win in IPL history. In their third match of the season and the first at home, they again humbled their opponents in yet another all-round performance. They began well, the opening pair adding 55 runs and finished well – 31 runs off the final eight balls. The bowlers were up to the task against a batting line-up that has been in excellent form so far. They also began well – three wickets in the Powerplay overs and finished well – keeping them to 137/9. Barring Zaheer, who was expensive and remained wicketless, every other bowler picked up a wicket each and maintained bowled economically. Chris Morris was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/23. The show has helped them climb up to third in the table ahead of the teams of the likes of KXIP and Sunrisers Hyderabad despite played a game less. End of ArticleFOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA
