K04-023, k04-001 and k03s are all Borg Warner turbos. A k04-001 is a k04-001 but it is basically the same spec as a k03s. They are still different turbos though.

your missing the point, he thought the k04-001 is a proper 225 K04 though my point was that it is not The k04-001 is supposedly a slightly higher spec than a k03s and runs a solid 250bhp on the dyno (or more from what I have seen on the vortex threads, but I am purely going on what I have read) If he says it was a k04-001 off an S3 then this is wrong (as this would be a k04-023) and has either been sold the wrong turbo or he has got his part numbers mixed up L.R.C.

Nope... "K0" is the series of the turbo (ie. Series "KP" "K0" "K1" "K2") The number is the size (4 is bigger than 3) The K04-001 compressor: Inducer: 35mm Exducer: 50mm Tip height: 3.7mm blade design (4/4) The K03 compressor Inducer: 33.6mm Exducer: 46mm Tip height: 3.7mm The K03-052 (K03S) compressor: Inducer: 38mm Exducer: 51mm Tip height: 4.4mm blade design (6/6) K04-01 turbine: Inducer: 50mm Exducer: 42mm Tip height: 6.4mm Blades: 11 The K03 & "K03S" turbine: Inducer: 45mm Exducer: 38mm Tip height: 6.8mm Blades: 11 L.R.C.

Interesting to know, never knew that (that must have been a very early version?) Now I am confused so the k04-001 is fitted to the Audi S3 (210 version), which is the same as the borg warner k04-001, which is the slightly uprated version of a k03s, which directly bolts onto the k03s manifold? or is the k04-001 which fits to the 210 Audi S3 different to the one that fits onto the k03 manifold? ibiza_95

yes....so my point is, the earlier turbo fitted to the 210 audi S3 (k04-001) will fit the k03 manifold?

Oct 31, 2006 2,218 0 Hampshire/Surrey Not missing the point at all. Others will read this thread and think its different so worth getting all the details straight in here so we dont get another post asking. The earlier turbo fitted to a 210bhp S3 is still a k04-023 which as we know is not direct fit inplace of a k03. From what I have heard the k04-001 was actually not fitted to any of the S3 and its all hearsay, not in the UK at least anyway. If you can find me an S3 with one on from the factory then Ill happily eat my words.

Oct 15, 2007 8,991 3 Newcastle As far as I know the k04-001 was replaced with the k03-052(s). So the k04-001 is a early version of the k03s.

Think this is right. Effectively the k03s superceeded (sp) the k04-001 but I think that the k04-001 was still in manufature for a while after it the k03s came out and possibly still is now but Im not sure.

why did it superceed it? if the k04-001 is a slightly uprated spec turbo (from what I have read on Vortex) then why did they switch back to the k03s which is slightly smaller from my understanding?
