K04 vs k03 spool up
« on: March 24, 2012, 10:51:53 pm » From my understanding I take it the k04 turbo kicks in a little later but stays strong till later in the rpm then the k03s, at what revs do both turbos start kicking in? Logged GTI MK5 with all the gooodiesK04 power going on soon!

Does that mean k03s has a better power output low down and the k04 slightly later? That also must mean the k04 is a better cruiser for the motorway as you can maintain the national limit and still not be in boost and therefore save fuel over the k03s too? I've achieved 41-42mpg by having the car at 60mph constantly over a 150+ mile journey. I think at 70mph, the turbo has kicked in. Logged The GTI isn't just a machine. Sorry what does pulling a vacuum mean?
....In broad terms, vacuum relates to turbo pressure. The vacuum causes the turbo actuator to close and hence the turbo to work and give extra power. That's the simple explanation. « Reply #14 on: March 25, 2012, 08:24:14 pm » My basic understanding of turbos is that the larger the impellor fan/wheel in the turbo the later it spools up, I cannot see ANY map changing the way a turbo spins up to speed to create boost, a map would only alter the amount of boost once its spooled up.Correct me if im wrong :popcornsoda: Logged MK7 Golf R, Pure White 3Dr DSG, Had since 10/06/14
