Predation possibilities of Harmonia octomaculata Fabricus and Micraspis discolor Fabricus (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) to rice whitefly Aleurocybotus indicus

Author Abstract

The experiments to evaluate predatory possibilities of Harmonia octomaculata Fabricus and Micraspis discolor Fabricus on rice whitefly Aleurocybotus indicus David and Subramaniam were conducted in the net house at Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute in 2014. The results showed that the predatory efficacy of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th instar larvae of H. Octomaculata Fabricus was 45 ± 0.5; 115 ± 0.6; 176 ± 0.9 and 609 ± 2.6 whiteflies, respectively. The predatory efficacy of male and female adults was 559 ± 1.9 and 642 ± 1.9 whiteflies, respectively, during their lifespan. The predatory efficiency of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th instar larvae of M. discolor Fabricus was 10 ± 0.3; 38 ± 0.7; 81 ± 0.8 and 224 ± 2.1 whiteflies, respectively and the predatory efficacy of male and female adults was 188 ± 1.2 and 235 ± 1.1 whiteflies, respectively, during their lifespan.
