Kingdom Hearts 4: Every Character Confirmed So Far - Screen Rant

Although it's yet to announce an official release date, gamers were pleasantly surprised by the recent teaser trailer for the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 4, the first mainline game to hit the masses since 2019. The newest edition to the beloved Square Enix RPG franchise will take place in a modern metropolis called Quadratum, which is heavily patterned after Tokyo, Japan.

Of course, as fervor for the game ramps up, gamers will inevitably want to know which characters will participate in the newest Kingdom Hearts game. While rumors have been swirling about the potential addition of certain Final Fantasy and Star Wars characters, only a few identifiable characters have been assured to appear thus far.

Sora

It should come as a little surprise to hear that Sora, the most likable of the original characters, will indeed return as the primary protagonist in KH4. Spotted with a snazzy new makeover in the trailer, Sora is poised to take on an advertised new arc in the game entitled The Lost Master arc. Whether or not the gallant Keyblade master will continue venturing with his childhood friends Riku and Kairi is anyone's guess at this point.

However, based on the voiceover at the end of the trailer, it appears Sora will be the one who is searched for rather than the one searching, requiring help from some old friends to be rescued and escape Quadratum to return to his own kingdom safely. Whatever the case, it's a relief to see Sora return in such a prominent KH4 role.

Donald Duck

Also making a rousing appearance in the trailer is good old Donald Duck, Sora's longtime ally who has been searching for King Mickey for years. Armed with a staff and hilarious comedic timing, Donald can be rash and impetuous but he always has Sora's back as a loyal companion.

Spotted ambling through a dark chamber in search of an unknown figure who can lead them to Sora's whereabouts, it's clear Donald has a clear mission of finding Sora and delivering him from evil before it's too late to escape Quadratum in one piece. Beyond that, the new Lost Master Arc is sure to throw Donald for a lethal loop or two.

Goofy

What would a Donald Duck appearance in the highly anticipated RPG be without his trusty cohort Goofy? Unthinkable. Therefore, it's rather heartening to see Donald and Goofy working together once more, this time out to directly rescue rather than supportively assist their Keyblade leader Sora from mysterious forces.

More of a defensive protector than an offensive aggressor, Goofy often wields shields over deadly weaponry, using his low-key high-perception to solve problems non-violently. How this will fare in the Lost Master Arc is anyone's guess at this point, but it's quite reassuring for KH fans to see the lovable clutz return for the fourth major installment. Omitting Goofy and Donald from the exciting upcoming RPG would be downright blasphemy.

Strelitzia

When the KH4 teaser dropped out of nowhere, the biggest question fans of the franchise had was: who is the mysterious girl accompanying Sora? According to a Square Enix press release, that girl is none other than Strelitzia, a Keyblade wielder who was first mentioned in the mobile spinoff Kingdom Hearts Union X. Strelitzia was a member of the Dandelion Union who was recruited by the Master of Masters to spearhead a union following the First Keyblade War.

While her motives are unknown in KH4, the trailer shows Strelitza consorting with Sora at an apartment complex in Quadratum. After informing Sora that he has been asleep for seven days, she mentions that Quadratum serves as a quasi-afterlife for both of them. The real question is, will Sora still take cues from the Master of Masters or will she ally herself with Sora for real.

Luxu

The voice heard narrating the trailer of the mysterious new Square Enix/Disney crossover game happens to be Luxu, the calm and measured yet villainous apprentice of the Master of Masters. Seen looming on a towering perch in his sinister black hooded robe in the trailer with an accomplice who could very well be the Master of Masters himself. Luxu threatens that Sora will fail to make it back to his homeland kingdom, prompting Donald and Goofy's dogged search in KH4.

How Luxu will function in the game beyond narration remains a mystery, but judging by his unwavering loyalty to the Master of Masters, breaking ranks with the almighty villain doesn't seem likely. Besides, squandering the use of his badass Gazing Eye Keyblade would be a major wasted opportunity.

Darkside

Also witnessed clearly in the KH4 teaser footage are the demonic, large batlike shadow monsters known as the Darkside. Technically a Pureblood Heartless specimen that often serves as an end-level boss in the KH series, in the trailer Sora is seen fighting at least one of them in the air despite being grossly overmatched by the size and scale of the winged beast.

The hulking humanoid monster is seen battling Sora in the trailer, who uses his Keyblade to hurl cars at the gigantic beast, although the vehicles are barely bigger than the beast's glowing yellow eyes. The real concern is who is guiding the Darkside to do their bidding and for what purpose, the answers to which that are sure to come in due time.

The Master Of Masters (Bonus - Unconfirmed)

While unconfirmed at this point, the appearance of Luxu and Strelitzia in the KH4 trailer almost certainly means that The Master of Masters will appear in the game in some fashion. Some have even postulated that he could be the Lost Master starring in the epic new storyline.

Standing on the ledge next to Luxu in the trailer is another identically-dressed figure in a black hooded robe, a costume introduced by the Master of Masters in KH X when training the Foretellers. The biggest clue is the way he keeps his arm(s) behind his back as opposed to Luxu's free-flowing arms, lording over the proceedings like a true boss. Whether he appears or not, it's clear the Master of Masters will have some kind of influence in KH4 when the game is eventually released.
