KO4-015 turbo upgrade
Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now! I recently bought a KO4-015 turbo. My b6 is 2002 1.8t , my question is... Should the turbo fit right in? Straight bolt in?...

Yessir it does. You will need a retune and bigger injectors for any significant performance increase. '03 A4 5-MT Motoza tuned Frankenturbo F21L With full supporting mods. Sold (and missed dearly). '13 A5 6-MT Needs more Fun Stuff: Neuspeed PM / 3.0 TDI Intercooler / H&R OE Sport Springs / Bilstein B8 Shocks / TyrolSport Brake Stiffeners / ECS Short Shifter / S5 Side Skirts / RS Grille

Also, if you're on the stock clutch, what is the max power you can do with the k04 and injectors? I noticed some oil in my brothers intake, so the turbo seals are going and its on its way out. I can source a K04 for $300, so I may just do that. Just trying to figure out what the performance is if I go that route. Thanks!

I went pretty much as far as you can on a built k04 with a stock clutcb. I made about 35k before I decided to go big turbo. When everything was apart I inspected my old pressure plate and disc, surprisingly it looked good! I didn't beat on my car the whole time though. I should clarify I replaced my clutch at 100k and at 135k I took it apart and my inspection is listed above. Loved my k04 btw, you will not be disappointed, maybe wanting more but not disappointed.

It doesn't necessarily mean that the turbo seals are bad. Just swapping a K03 with a K04 without doing anything else isn't going to gain any appreciable performance. In order to make use of the K04 you will need to get the proper tuning as well as larger injectors. How long the stock clutch will hold up is pretty hard to predict. Too many variables. How many miles on the stock clutch? Mostly highway or mostly stop and go miles? Was it babied or abused? '03 A4 5-MT Motoza tuned Frankenturbo F21L With full supporting mods. I just cleaned the throttle body. Maybe I'm just over analyzing it, but it stood out to the guy who is helping me with the alternator. He also noticed a little bit of sludge under the oil cap, so after I get it running again I was gonna get it cleaned with a sea foam treatment. If the turbo does need to be replaced, I would do it right and get the injectors and tune with the ko4. Since clutch needs to get done also, if you recommend going to an updated clutch, I'd do that as well.

I guess it all depends upon your budget and driving style. I'm running a Valeo clutch kit that you can find for around $400. So far it's holding up to my F21L just fine. For several hundred more dollars ECS and JHM both have some decent kits that will hold more power than the Valeo. They both come with lightweight flywheels so expect some chatter at low rpm's. I think I read frankenturbo somewhere? about a year ago I had the good fortune to test one of the Motoza tuned prototype F21L mixed flow turbo kits. Clicky click So far I'm lovin it! Since I was already at 200K miles I was interested in a solid tune without going "balls to the wall". The kit is relatively inexpensive considering all the hardware that comes with it. (Mine was REALLY inexpensive;-) I'm currently running 20 pounds of boost and putting out around 280 hp. If you really want to push it it's capable of producing a lot more power. I know G-Ride from down under is working with Motoza on an E85 tune and is well beyond 300 hp. We have been comparing files and the last one I saw was over 330 hp. Overall I think it is a pretty good option for the expenditure. '03 A4 5-MT Motoza tuned Frankenturbo F21L With full supporting mods. Sold (and missed dearly).
