Just like the F90 BMW M5, the current G80 BMW M3 and G82 BMW M4 Competition variants will now come with M xDrive all-wheel drive systems. This is the first time all-wheel drive is offered to the two models.

Under the hood is a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine with 510 hp and 650 Nm. The all-wheel drive models will only come with 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmissions.

As for the 0 to 100 km/h times, the M3 and M4 Competition models with are quicker off the line with the extra traction. It takes them just 3.5 seconds to complete the run, 0.4 seconds quicker than the rear-wheel drive models.

In the default all-wheel drive setting, the cars are primarily rear-biased, with more power sent to the rear wheels and in 4WD Sport, the cars get even more power to the rear wheels without losing its all-wheel drive capabilities.

Once the vehicle’s Dynamic Stability Control is switched off, both will be purely rear-wheel driven.

Like the F90 M5, both models will come with M1 and M2 switches on the steering for two different drive configurations – allowing the driver to customise engine, damper and transmission settings etc.

Locally, BMW Malaysia has begun to take orders for the M3 and M4 Competition with prices starting from RM664,800, while the M4 Competition starts from RM684,800. Although these should still be rear-wheel driven models.
