peter88 P Iv fried 2 thin wires running form my alternator to a clip just above the starter motor, that then runs into a bigger wire casing over the engine into my bulkhead. My alternator (new 6 months ago) was not charging the battery after he wires fried, and the battery dash light came on. I replaced the 2 fried wires from the alternator clip to the clip above the startermotor, but the battery light is still on, maybe i have blown a fuse, does anybody know which fuse it? i know where most fuses are just below steering wheel. thanks pete #1 · Oct 10, 2018 Iv fried 2 thin wires running form my alternator to a clip just above the starter motor, that then runs into a bigger wire casing over the engine into my bulkhead. Inside are 4 or 5 big "strip fuses"......very common for them to blow (but not always visible) or the connections to them to corrode. It could also be that you fried the wires inside the "bigger wire casing over the engine into my bulkhead." If you've damaged the alternator, you need a new brush/regulator pack.....buy genuine, not cheap eBay! #5 · Oct 11, 2018 there are no fuse on chargin system #6 · Oct 12, 2018 That depends on model....some have! 0 Reply #7 · Oct 12, 2018 .. sorry my mistake. older model don't have fuse. B+ directly connect to starter #10 · Oct 15, 2018 What's the B+ mean exactly? TA 0 Reply #8 · Oct 12, 2018 It's the "older" ones that DO have the fuse. Later models were fitted with bigger output alternators....and no fuses to match a 150 Amp unit. Early 90 and "some" 120 amp alternators had a fuse in the box. Please don't confuse the OP. #9 · Oct 15, 2018 Ah ok, mine is the 90amp I bought a new bosch one earlier this year. Any idea which fuse it could be? Thanks #11 · Oct 15, 2018 B+ is the output terminal on the alternator....the thick wire. IF you have a fuse, should be easy to spot as that wire will go into the black box in front of the battery. (If you don't have a fuse, it will connect to the starter motor terminal.) There's usually either 4 or 5 BIG fuses in there, and a few smaller ones. #12 · Oct 15, 2018 Ahh thanks very much, so my b+ connects to the starter motor. No fuses, do yo know where the thin red and blue wire that connects to the alternator uns to then, as that's what wires burnt then replaced , they run to another connector clip above the starter from the alternator then into my bulkhead it looks like? Thanks pete 0 Reply #13 · Oct 15, 2018 They go to the main fusebox, and up to the instrument cluster. If the ones you replaced were burnt, chances are the ones in the rest of the loom are 2. The wiring diagrams in Haynes and other manuals are notorious for not showing all the variations. If you contact Upspex (great guy) via his web-site (https://www.travelvolts.net/) and give him your email addy and ALL the details of your van...year/engine/style/etc, he'll send you the correct PDF file of the wiring for your charging system. Please remember he's a business, and does this for free to forum members, so IF you ever need any electrical stuff, consider him 1st. #14 · Oct 15, 2018 Flip gaz thanks very much for your help, very helpful. No problem, I'll message him now. Great help A: ta petee 0 Reply Insert Quotes Post Reply
