​ Joined Aug 24, 2007 I'm going to upgrade from my MX310. Just not enough DPI for MWLL. I've been pretty happy with Logitech overall, so I'm looking at the G9 for $45 from Best Buy http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Logitec....p?id=1185265538878&skuId=8472324&st=logitech but they also have the G9X for $70. Is it that much better?? $45 seems like a really good price..

The MX310 I have now is 800 DPI. Going up to 3200, that should mean I get the same on screen movement from only 1/4 the mouse travel, correct? If so, that should be plenty and I'll just grab the G9.

​ Joined Jul 31, 2004 I never actually use my G9 at max dpi, unless I'm playing some game with a machine gun where aiming is much slower then other guns, then bump the dpi up and aiming is just as fast as other guns.

Bigger is better, with DPI. If only they could move that 5700 DPI from a laser mouse input to a digital flat panel output...

​ Joined Oct 19, 2008 Location England, United Kingdom I have a G9x ... absolutely love it ... best mouse I ever owned. Its so comfortable and responsive. But realistically if you don't need more that 3200dpi then just get the G9. The ONLY difference is the DPI ... Linus from NCIX does a comparison on youtube. any good gamer doesn't use his mouse at 5700 dpi its just silly honestly setting your mouse this high(set it and you'll see what I'm talking about).......At this dpi the mouse loses any precision as soon as the cursor begins to move fast .....you'll be hard pressed to find people who actually use it at that setting the MAJORITY of good gamers I know use 2000ish maybe as high as 3000ish dpi but the amount of people that actually use that high are far and few with relative skill that is....the only reason i could see to increase dpi is if in game the cursor environment moves much much slower than any regular environment.

Well no. It means the resolution of the laser sees 3200 dots in an inch of mouse pad. More accuracy when your trying to get the xhairs just perfect for that long range sniper shot. The speed and range of the mouse for moving around the screen is done in game and in the mouse software.

And therefore effectively movement in 1/4 the space. Movement is tracked by dots, not inches, therefore higher DPI causes faster movement if software settings remain constant.

Hardly. In Day of Defeat when I've got a mounted machine gun, after mounting, I bump up the DPI, and I can aim just as quick as with a regular gun. In BF2142 in a tank, anti-air turret, or gun turret, or guiding a gunship missile, I can bump up the DPI and aim quicker than if DPI were fixed. If you have an extremely small area available for your mouse (such as my computer desk at home), higher DPI is useful because you don't have to move the mouse as much. I play most Source games with in-game sensitivity at 20 and my mouse at 2200-2400 DPI. With practice, you can learn to use the highest DPI settings and all it takes to turn around and shoot the person trying to stab you in the back is a twitch of the wrist. High DPI is far from a waste for "any good gamer". Last edited: Feb 7, 2010

1 isn't 2, and A isn't B, etc. Do you have a point? You may have no use for a paperclip twisted into a T-shape with twist-ties wrapped around the end, but I might. People will learn to make use of the higher DPI, regardless of the number. Does the fact that some people can use something you can't make them all "silly"?

​ Joined Jun 22, 2005 And to think I love the 9,000FPS responsiveness 450dpi from the MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 I dunno, I think a lot of stuff is really marketing to grab your interest. I have found however, just for example, between my Logitech MX518, Razer Deathadder, and MIE 3.0, that the MIE 3.0 offers me more pinpoint accuracy IMO than the other 2 I listed. The MX518 has got to be one of my all time faves though (@ 400dpi), so in such, I'd try and find the Logitech G500 for about $50 if you can find. IMO that would be the better.

​ Joined Jan 11, 2010 Location Bronx,Ny im talking about majority of ppl i also said "the amount of people that actually use that high are far and few with relative skill that is" never did i say there were none that could use those settings skillfully just those people are far and few honestly... so the practicality of 5700 dpi on the gx9 compared to the lower dpi of the g9 which is still 3200 is whats really in question if some can use it and i cant its not silly i said its silly because for precision and accuracy's sake moving the mouse a few mm's and getting across the screen to spray someone is more a twitch of the wrist as you say than actually turning around and picking your shot knowing where it'll land just instead of moving your wrist a few mm's its like 2 inches i don't have a big desk at all either (1ft square) but i can make due with that and most ppl can too because of the greater control and accuracy OP

I only have about 8x6" worth of mousepad. I also don't like to lift the heel of my palm from the table while mousing. You mention 2 inches, well, to me, that's a huge amount of mouse travel and would probably require lifting my palm from the table, reducing accuracy. Until MWLL came along with somewhat sluggish turrets and apparently non-adjustable (or already maxed) mouse sensitivity, it wasn't an issue. There's also the input granularity issue. I keep my 800dpi mouse at Vista's max sensitivity setting, an that results in it skipping a pixel now and then. With a lower Windows setting and higher mouse dpi, that issue should go away too. ​ Joined Jan 11, 2010 Location Bronx,Ny i move my wrist slightly to get across the screen (mouse moves about an inch on my table. i play with my wrist on the edge of the table and have the tiny mouse pad as well (i need a bigger desk) its about an inch just said 2 as a ballpark figure did'nt actually measure but yeah I remember the days of playing fps on a ball mouse lol now that took some skill ! have you bought the mouse yet?
