Is there any difference in autofocus speed and acquiring in low light between these two cameras with a 22mm f2?

Well the big differentiator is form factor/features of course, but I assume you’ve got that sorted already. Not enough M50ii’s in the wild yet in these parts. I’d really like to try one out to see if it would make a good dedicated macro cam for me.
Let us know how you make out.

ps. I’m assuming you’re trying to see if the M200 will be good enough.

I'm imagining they should be similar in that respect but asking to make sure, yes. EOS M system isn't very popular where I live. Limited selection. Can find the m50 and m100 or 200 maybe but not much else. Body with kit lens but the lenses aren't available. Would have to order from abroad.

In reply to Swerky • Mar 10, 2021 2I don't think enough people have hade their hands on the M5 II to make that determination. However, both cameras are using the same sensor, the same processor, and the same generation of software. If there is any AF difference between the two it would be so small that it would never impact real world shooting. The significant difference in form factor for these two cameras will have a far greater impact on your shooting experience.
Think about it a bit more, the only difference between the M50 and M50 II is the M50 II is running the newer firmware that was introduced with the M200.

I think it's save to assume the M50mkII will be at least on par, and probably a bit faster. However, I don't think it's very likely the difference will be huge.
The M200 has the same sensor and processor compared to the M5mk1, and yet it has a bit better specs for low light AF. Maybe Canon improved soft/firmware even a bit further. But I expect it to be only just a little bit better.

I am guessing your meant M50 MK1 and not M5.

In reply to Swerky • Mar 10, 2021Indeed as said above, both having same sensor and processor, I imagine no one would bother comparing the two as they would be pretty similar in autofocus performance. Perhaps someone would do a comparison just for the heck of it if they have both under hand. Price difference between the two being in the physical features of the m50 (evf, more buttons and fully articulating screen).

In reply to nnowak • Mar 11, 2021 2I've tried both. I tried the m50 mark ii to see if the af was faster and if low light iso was better. It was not better in my indoor testing of my pets and family. I would buy whichever model is on sale. There may be features that I missed on the m50 ii but I do not take video so I only tested it. I own the M200 but find that I prefer the regular M50 due to the ergonomics.

In reply to Swerky • Mar 11, 2021 1The main difference between the M50MkII and the M200 is that the M50MkII has an electronic viewfinder, the M200 doesn't. As someone who started with a Contax FM SLR in 1959 and ended with a Canon 70D DSLR, I wouldn't be without a viewfinder. But that is a personal preference. That is why I haven't upgraded from my M50 to the M6 MkII.
I shall not be upgrading to the MkII as the differences are not conmensurate with the costs of buying the MkII. In addition, considering value for money, I would rate the M50 above the M200.

It would be good to check a detailed feature list to make sure the actual AF features are the same too. Canon loves to differentiate between cameras through firmware also (even within the same DIGIC family).
Perhaps someone would do a comparison just for the heck of it if they have both under hand. Price difference between the two being in the physical features of the m50 (evf, more buttons and fully articulating screen).
Don’t forget the hotshoe! And grip!
If this is going to be your main camera, IMHO you’d be best off with the more capable model. Unless minimal size is paramount.
Happy shopping!

The m200 does have spot metering while the M50ii doesn't according to specs on dpreview. That would have some effect but perhaps not related to AF acquisition and speed. Would need some more detailed sheet.

Thanks! Yes true there's also the hot shoe and the grip obviously. Not sure wether the M50ii takes a bigger battery. Thanks for the tips.

But i's convenient for me to carry in a pocket everywhere I go.
