Ezh E I read about the chiptuning abit. Some discussions about DMC remap ended with "is it bullshit or not?" question. I may do this tuning: Customchip auto Bmw M5 E60 - Klaar terwijl U Wacht ! Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Sep 30, 2008 Just be sure to do a before/after dyno at a facility you trust. Then, you'll know for sure. :) #3 · Sep 30, 2008 In my opinion "no". If you want to say that improved shifting (smoothness) is worth the extra $1k - $1.5k then that is up to you. But HP-wise it is not. #4 · Sep 30, 2008 +1. Don't do it for hp/tq gains. You will be disappointed. 0 Reply #5 · Sep 30, 2008 I would normally agree with the "don't do it for the power gains" mentality, but with DMS claiming a whopping 41hp and 28lb/ft torque gain, I'd personally want proof. Guess I'm a stickler that way. :( #6 · Sep 30, 2008 (Edited) I suggest you consult with www.dms-automotive.co.uk They have done over 100 V10's with very happy customers, including myself with the M6 I owned last year. From 62 - 125 mph the car was one second faster, which is quite good. Two people, one thought. I have a dyno with 548 bhp with the chip only. #7 · Sep 30, 2008 I have the ESS tune and am happy with it. Seems to be more usable tq down low. I am not sure there is a huge hp/tq gain, but the improvement in shifting and increased redline make it worth it for me. #8 · Sep 30, 2008 Dumb question but what's the difference between 'chip tuning' and an ECU flash? #9 · Sep 30, 2008 On this vehicle, semantics. 0 Reply #10 · Sep 30, 2008 Where may I read about ESS? Should I bring the car to England for chiping? I have no thoughts doing it... Maybe Finland, Russia or Sweden, but not England. #11 · Oct 1, 2008 ESS Tuning - BMW Supercharger Kits Also lots of reviews on this site. Just do a search for ESS. You don't have to take your car anywhere. Just send them your ECU. I believe their headquarters are in Norway. Other possibility is Kelleners in Germany. There are a few folks that have their tune. 0 Reply #12 · Oct 1, 2008 I believe the 10 kWt are not worth the costs at all... We may close the topic. :) #13 · Oct 1, 2008 My answer would be NO. I've got an Active Autowerks chip, and as far as I know it is the only one that actually claims the true HP gain of about 10 HP, and provides before/after graphs to back it up. The BMW normally aspirated engines just do not respond to chip tuning, and what you spend on a chip will be much better spent on suspension or airflow modifications. Anyone who spends $700 and up for a chip will be highly biased to see some type of gain, so you can discount any seat-of-the-pants impressions. Despite claims to the contrary, nobody alive has a sensitive enough butt to sense a 10 hp difference in a 500 hp car. Claims of 40+ hp gains with a chip are laughable, and of course never documented with any real data. As far as DMS is concerned, I had a series of very nice and informative email communications with them some time ago, and 'Mike' sent me a dyno curve showing 545 HP with the DMS system. I asked for the baseline dyno of the same car: I think the negative comments would stop almost completely if you provided a baseline dyno of a stock car for comparison. I'm sure you've done this and have the data - yes? I think people assume the worst when you don't provide this data. After this request, DMS stopped responding to my emails. Why do you think that was? #16 · Oct 1, 2008 I would have expected no response from DMS or any other company claiming these numbers off a chip, especially when you ask questions that are relevant to proving the results. If there is no defenite data sheets that proves their gains, its a NO GO and considered B.S. I would like to see DMS on the board to prove themselves, man they got ads in multi magazines and so forth but cant prove their claimed data, just a joke. 0 Reply #14 · Oct 1, 2008 As posted my M6 was a full second faster from 62mph to 125 mph which means there is extra power. Dyno or not, the car was quicker. Period. You also know that dyno's can be tricked, so sheets don't say it all. The one second does. But hey, no one forces you to order from them. #17 · Oct 1, 2008 Dyno's can be tricked, but DMS would be subject to all sorts of litigation if it intentionally posted false results. And I'm not denying that the DMS chip provides 'extra power' as you say, but I can't qualify your statements as reliable data. I guarantee you that DMS has the dyno graphs I requested, but they declined to post them for a reason. This topic has been discussed before ad nauseum: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e60-m5-e61-m5-touring-discussion/73138-ecu-remap-dms-10.html The bottom line is that DMS, like AA could easily settle things by simply posting a before/after dyno of their chip. It would need to be accurate or they would expose themselves to all sorts of litigation. So why do you think they don't do this? It's because their customers are claiming far more of a HP increase than they actually have, so better to let their customers continue to sound the trumpet for them rather than provide actual data.
