mjr24 Colonel 2319Rep 2,843Posts Drives: 25 X7, 24 I7 Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Wisconsin iTrader: (0) | M850i vs M8.....almost thinking of going with the M850i this time, thoughts? So I have a X5M Comp right now but I'm getting rid of it because we already have an X7 for the kids and the X5M is just....different.....than my previous M cars and I think M cars in general (probably, because, it's not really a car and it's the heaviest of all M models). It just doesn't drive like a M5 or M6....it's not as fast....etc. (the X5M is still great, though.....very luxurious!). Bottom line, I think I'm just used to driving cars more than SUV's in terms of my everyday car. I think I also had an issue paying $500 more per month for the X5M than my M5 or M6 that had similar MSRP's. Brings me to my next decision.....M850i or M8. I had a G30 M550i and it was great bang for the buck.....I bought that as the F90 had not yet been released. However, normally I'm a real M car kind of guy.... What are your guys' thoughts on this? I just feel BMW has really watered down the real M models over the last 3 years. They neutered my bangs and pops in my M5 halfway through my lease.....and the new M cars don't pop at all (X5M has none of that). You can't get B and W on M8 models.....the wing mirrors are on the M850i starting in 2023....it just doesn't seem like I'm getting as much for my money in 2022 (and obviously.....no discounts either which makes real M cars look even less attractive). Thoughts? __________________ 2025 X7 40i, 2024 I7 60i, 2022 M8 Comp GC, 2021 AMG GT53, 2022 X5M Competition, 2021 X7 40i, 2019 M5, 2018 M550I, 2017 Audi Q7, 2014 M6 GC, 2013 Mercedes CLS550, 2011 750LI, 2008 M6 Cabrio, 2008 Porsche Cayenne S, 2004 Mercedes SL55 AMG, 2003 Mercedes SL500, 2000 Mercedes CL500, 1993 Lexus SC400, 1989 525i, 1985 318i |

Created a thread about it which had useful input from forum members https://f92.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1906030 The 2023 models are even more M like visually with M badging on the grill and M mirrors as you stated. Power is there but it will ride a bit more comfortable than a typical M. |

I went with a 2020 M8 Comp GC, and do not regret it at all. A completely Jekyl and Hyde monster, capable of puttering around in my intown commute, and then just ripping a hole in the stratosphere on the highway. |

First off I'd miss the red buttons too much the ability to have ASS remain off all the time with out button pressing, and well the looks. Not to mention power etc.... it all would add up and I'd be unhappy, I know this because I got the early X540i was super happy till I bought the X5 50i then bought X5MC.... I drove the M8 now I have one coming. LOL its a problem I know. __________________ 2022 M8 Comp Convertible 2023 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 2019 718 Cayman Base 2015 M235 Manual On the list for the M2 CS |

Aside from cost, you won't regret getting the M car, but there's certainly a possibility you may end up regretting the M850. __________________ Current: 2022 i4 M50 | 2025 I20 iX Gone: 2022 G07 X7 | 2020 F92 M8 | 2020 G07 X7 | 2018 F80 M3 | 2017 F15 X5 | 2016 F16 X6 | 2015 F36 4 series GC |

hoffmeister Second Lieutenant 265Rep 272Posts Drives: 2018 M5, 2016 M4, 2015 X5 5.0 Join Date: Feb 2015 Location: Ny iTrader: (0) | Great topic. I went through a little of this when ordering the m8. I was contemplating all sorts of crazy ideas like getting a 750 as a daily cruiser and a m2 or an x6 m50 and an m3 (mix of new/used) instead of a ridiculously expensive one car does it all m8. My sales guy thought i was going berzerk. I just missed the "fizz" you get starting that big M V8 and having the space with the every day usability. The flogging on a track day then letting it drive you home after. Thats a special thing to me. I didnt get that same fizz out of an m850 which i tested before i sold the m5. When i got out of the m5 to test the m850 it just didnt feel as engaging to me. It is a fantastic car and truly you cant go wrong. I respect the guy on this board that posted about m850 being better than m8- i recommend reading that thread as you think through this. Best thing i can say is: Ive never bought an M and wished i hadnt gotten it. Ive only regretted selling them. When i bought the m5 in 2018 i came from a 650gc which i really loved. I missed the shape and form of the 650 of course- it was better looking than the m5…but didnt have the same seat of the pants joy which made the m5 a much better car to me. I should have just bought the damn m8gc when it came out instead of going to the 911 turbo. I was annoyed that the gc was so much more expensive than the m5 yet would depreciate so badly almost immediately. I guess im over that now? |

As for future value, relatively few made, V8s gone, all that's left are 6s, hybrids and EVs...I see the future,10 to 15 years, being an incredible market for these M8s. |

My M is an X3M, and now that I've tasted M, I can't go back to non-M. I just can't. I'm considering the M8 GC as my Next b/c the F90 M5 will be out of production, and I want a taste of non-electrified V8. The G80 M3 is a contender, but... the M8 is just a stunningly beautiful car from all angles. I saw one on the highway last month - its driver was in hooligan mode and having fun. |

Like, “did you run out of money” bad. There are no tips, really. If you don’t have a true (lighter) sportscar, I’d say the M8 would be well worth the extra money. Good luck! Rich |

I had a decision to make between purchasing the Lexus LC500 again, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, or the C8 Z06. I made an Excel spreadsheet, dropped in the top 10 performance-oriented cars I was interested in and compared them all against 22 objective criteria including availability. When the smoke cleared I was staring at a 2023 M850i on my chart. I didn't want to like that car--I'd owned and sold a brutally modified Corvette Grand Sport and was leaning toward brute force again, but the LC sold me on a balance of sport, luxury, and COMFORT for long road trips down to the coast. Yeah...for my needs, the M850 will do nicely. Placed an order on a Carbon Black 2023 loaded up with goodies. |

Beautiful car, good power, good sound, very comfortable daily driver. 2.5 months later i'm bored looking through cars online...and see a 2021 Black Sapphire metallic M8 Coupe. Picked it up the next day. They had a M8 coupe and a M8 Comp coupe. I test drove both. For me, the Comp was too firm of a ride even in comfort mode, and although the carbon fiber racing seats were gorgeous, I didn't find them very comfortable for a daily driver. So I felt the M8 basic was the goldilocks of the trio (8501, M8, M8 Comp)...great power, sound, comfort, sport, luxury...just...perfect. I installed an Eventuri carbon fiber intake, and a carbon fiber kidney grill and I will do the exhaust next. I love it. |

One forum member said it best, most likely last V8 we see from BMW. From M4 to M850, 850 left me wanting because did not stack up to M4. I bought a last-on-lot 850 in 2020 and was plain as plain. Beautiful car, nice exhaust note, but not raw like the manual M4. Perfect fir my wife and I don’t mean anything derogatory about that. She likes her cars. But as soon as I took it to the track, I started planning to do all kinds of mods as it wasn’t up to the task, nor was it made for the task nor did I have the patience to learn how to race it with the crazy rear wheel steering which really screwed me up on the track. Waste of money to try and make it an M car or better. It’s wasn’t an M car. So now I’ll do performance mods on the M car and it’ll do well on the two tracks in my area that will accommodate the longer wheelbase. |
