Material Needed (Triangle) Definition
The Material Needed Calculator (Triangle) offers an easy way to determine the number of cubic yards of material required to fill a triangular prismatic space. This calculator is very helpful for gauging the amount of material necessary for certain types of construction work, which can be important when assessing project cost.
Using the Material Needed Calculator (Triangle)
Please follow these basic instructions to use this calculator:
1. In field one, labeled “Side 1,” enter the length, in feet, of the first side of the triangular prism. A decimal can be used if the measurement is not a whole number.
Examples:
- If the length is eight feet, enter “8”.
- If the length is one foot, nine inches, enter “1.75”.
- If the length is nine feet, eight inches, enter “9.66”.
2. In field two, labeled “Side 2,” enter the length, in feet, of the second side of the triangular prism. A decimal can be used if the measurement is not a whole number. For examples, refer to #1, above.
3. In the third field, labeled “Side 3,” enter the length, in feet, of the third side of the triangular prism. A decimal can be used if the measurement is not a whole number. For examples, refer to #1, above.
4. In the fourth field, labeled “Depth (inches),” enter the depth, in inches, of the triangular prism. Use a decimal if the measurement includes a fraction.
Examples:
- If the triangular prism is eleven inches deep, enter “11”.
- If the triangular prism is five and one-half inches, enter “5.5”.
- If the depth is twenty and three-quarter inches, enter “20.75”.
5. Click the “Calculate” button.
Reading the Results
The results are shown below the “Calculate!” button in cubic yards, and are rounded to the closest one-hundredth of a cubic yard. Note: If the calculator returns the result “0.0,” review your input to ensure that you entered valid values in each of the fields (i.e. numbers larger than zero).
Calculating Triangle Area
This calculator is only useful for computing a triangular prism’s volume; it cannot be used to determine the area of a triangle. To calculate the a triangle’s area, go to the Triangle Area Calculator. Also, check out the original Materials Needed Calculator
