Mazda PH Adds 253-Horsepower CX-5 AWD Turbo To Line-Up For P 2.380M (w/ Specs)
Bermaz Auto Philippines, the exclusive distributor of Mazda in the Philippines is giving enthusiasts what they want with the market launch of the first-ever CX-5 AWD Turbo. Realizing an unfulfilled gap in the compact SUV segment, the CX-5 AWD Turbo blends style, performance, and functionality.Going straight to the point, the CX-5 AWD Turbo is the fastest, most powerful compact SUV. At its heart is a turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G. Also found in the Mazda6 and CX-9, engineers upped the power and torque to 253 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 434 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm using 95 RON fuel. Moreover, unlike other turbocharged engines, it can use regular 91 RON fuel. This brings down the power to a still potent 231 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. Connected to a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters, the CX-5 AWD Turbo also has Mazda’s i-Activ AWD helping it drop its 0 to 100 km/h sprint to just 7.7 seconds. Top speed is at a cool 224 km/h.Together with the new powertrain, Mazda also heavily revised the CX-5 AWD Turbo’s platform. Taking learnings from the all-new Mazda3 and CX-30’s Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture, the compact SUV is now sharper, quieter, and more refined than ever. The body shell itself is made more rigid thanks to added body dampeners. The springs and shock absorbers, meanwhile, have been revised to limit lateral movement, preventing motion sickness. Finally, road and tire noise has been greatly reduced thanks to added sound deadening.Inside, occupants will revel in the heightened sense of luxury provided by the CX-5 AWD Turbo. The seats not only feature a new construction that help optimize body support, but they’re finished in full-grain nappa leather in Dark Red. The front occupants also benefit from ventilated seats as well. Along with the plusher seats, there’s also genuine layered wood trim in a matte finish, and a frameless rear-view mirror. In terms of convenience features, the CX-5 AWD Turbo also adds wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless device charging as standard. In exchange, the CD/DVD slot has been removed.Further improving the CX-5 AWD Turbo’s practicality, the cargo hold now has a dual-level system. This allows owners to create a truly flat loading bay, or create a more elevated system that allows more items to be fitted into the spare tire compartment.Communicating the CX-5 AWD Turbo’s changes cosmetically, it’s the only variant that gets a revised exterior design. Dictated by the principles of Yohaku or the beauty of empty spaces, it minimizes character lines in favor of reflective body surfaces. Upfront, the front fog lamps have been integrated into the revised headlamp units with horizontally-spaced, rectangular lighting units. Fender flares and side sills are now finished in body color, while the 19-inch alloy wheels feature a new design. At the back, the taillights also gain the same rectangular lighting units, while the tailgate and bumper have been simplified. Finally, in terms of safety, the CX-5 AWD Turbo gets the full suite of Mazda’s i-Activsense driver assist system. Aside from Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Alert, Smart City Brake Support – Forward (4 to 30 km/h), and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear-Cross Traffic Alert, it adds Mazda Radar Cruise Control (30 km/h and up), Smart Brake Support (15 to 145 km/h), and Smart City Brake Support – Reverse (2 to 8 km/h).Together with the introduction of the AWD Turbo variant, Mazda Philippines has also revamped the rest of the CX-5 line-up for 2022. The Pro variant is now gone and in its place as the new entry-level variant is the 2.0L Sport, followed by the 2.5 AWD Sport. Both of these CX-5 variants are still sourced from Malaysia and remain unchanged. Meanwhile, the CX-5 2.2 AWD Diesel has been discontinued in favor of this Made in Japan CX-5 AWD Turbo. The 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo retails for P 2,380,000 and comes in eight colors: Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Sonic Silver, Deep Crystal Blue, Jet Black, and exclusive for this variant, Zircon Sand and Polymetal Gray. Also standard is a 3-year / 100,000-kilometer warranty and a 5-year / 100,000-kilometer free Preventive Maintenance Service (PMS) package.2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo Specifications- Engine: Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbocharged

As much as I want it to succeed, most people who were clamoring, and willing to pay, for this variant have moved on to other trims, models, or makes altogether. Add to that the growing preference for fuel sippers, hybrids, and EVs due to rocketing oil prices, this model launch is just plagued by a colossal amount of bad voodoo. Bermaz timed the entry of this variant horribly.

Napaglumaan na yung design. Boring at wala nang dating. Hype na lang yung premium kuno.

2nd Gen was released 2016 and yet CX5's design aged well. Still one of the nicest looking compact SUV around. Not judging, but its your taste anyway.

nice but sadly too late. should've released a year or two after launch. but they decided to milk people instead with incremental aesthetic upgrades. thanks mazda anyway.

It has something to do with market timings. You don't expect a brand to release a car/product with a lot of changes/new spec every single year. Just like iPhones, that's what the next gens are for.

If that is "mahina", then you should be buying a sports car, not an SUV.

As an example, the new Ford Escape (not sold here) with 2.0L ecoboost can do 0-100 in 6.5 seconds or less. Old Forester XTs can also do around that time. So yeah, MAHINA.

Remember, these are manufacturer quoted figures. It can swing both ways. Some say the Forester does around 8 seconds based on other publication's instrumented tests, while the CX-5 Turbo does it in about 6 seconds.Again, these SUVs aren't about the 0 to 100 or quarter mile times. These aren't supercars or anything...they're basically fast grocery-getters.

I happen to talk to the product planning team at Mazda PH. Apparently, the next-gen Mazda Connect system wasn't made available as an option for our market. Similar how the 2022 CX-9 also uses the old Mazda Connect system. It's a Japan thing, sadly.

No plans to move CX-8 production to Japan. It's still built in Malaysia. Also, very minor updates to CX-8...basically a grille job. New infotainment in Japan also, but so far not available in CKD Malaysia models.

ReplyDeleteReplies- Ulysses AngJune 17, 2022 at 8:47 AM
Globally, there's no CX-5 Hybrid. Instead, they went with cylinder deactivation for this generation in Europe (https://www.carguide.ph/2021/01/mazda-adds-horsepower-cylinder.html)

The RAV4 LTD with a price premium of about PhP120k looks more attractive as it is hybrid plus more options?
ReplyDeleteReplies- AnonymousJune 17, 2022 at 2:54 PM
And the RAV4 LTD isn't even AWD or 4x4.
DeleteReplies- Reply
- AnonymousJune 17, 2022 at 8:32 PM
rav4 is overpriced, the only thing it has against this cx-5 is its hybrid engine (and a pano roof if you are into that), but everything else is meh, the leather (that only comes in black) looks and feels cheap to touch, the info is a 7 inch screen with a reverse camera from 2014. Pretty sure they jacked up the price of the rav4 intentionally because they are the only ones offering a hybrid. If you only care for fuel efficiency and money isnt a problem go rav4 no questions asked but everything else cx-5 is better.

ever wonder why RAV4 is topping them all even in US? In PH, i think these are both overpriced.
DeleteReplies- Reply
- AnonymousJune 17, 2022 at 9:05 PM
No need to wonder because rav4 prime is available in us, its a phev, basically a top trim NX minus the comfort and the bells and whistles, in australia where rav4 prime isnt available cx-5 is a better seller. Most cars here are overpriced. Not just cars, even laptops and iphones.

"The RAV4 LTD with a price premium of about PhP120k looks more attractive as it is hybrid" Not even AWD and way too overpriced for a FWD-only Hybrid. And also, as long as Fortuner exists in their lineup, only a handful of people will take interest, let alone buy, on this RAV4.

Too expensive and too late. Mas okay pa CX-8 na lang kesa eto. Mas sulit ang Subaru Outback.
ReplyDeleteReplies- AnonymousJune 18, 2022 at 9:41 AM
In almost the same price bracket, it's either you want a 7/6-seater CX-8 with an underpowered engine at full load, or a 5-seater CX-5 with the strongest engine in its class.

ReplyDeleteReplies- Ulysses AngJune 18, 2022 at 9:39 AM
Depends. If I needed the seven seats, I'd go CX-8. If I don't, I'd go with the CX-5 Turbo. Since my passenger count rarely goes above two, I'd go CX-5 Turbo. It's the most complete package in the compact SUV class.

Uly, I just noticed from the Mazda PH website that after the new 2022 CX-5 website went live, the CX-30 AWD Sport has been removed. (Maybe, they ran out of their remaining stocks.) Now it's all FWD with the TOTL M Hybrid.

Price of the Malaysian made CX-5s didn't change. They discontinued the Pro model. The Sport is now the entry-level model and it's well-loaded for its price:https://www.carguide.ph/2020/02/review-2020-mazda-cx-5-2wd-sport.html

This or the 2.2D (if still available) also the why did they drop the diesel?
ReplyDeleteReplies- Ulysses AngJune 21, 2022 at 9:10 PM
No more diesel. They dropped it because of low volume. The problem with a CKD operation is that you have to place a minimum order for the plant to manufacture it. The diesel never really sold well in the Philippines. Since the Turbo is CBU Japan, Mazda PH has the flexibility to order as they wish...but it just one, or ten, or thirty. The first batch, I understand is 30 units, and they're all sold.
