Nice! – When I decided to purchase a second-hand C200 Compressor from 2002, I must admit I had reservations about buying a car that was over two decades old. However, it was the most affordable option within my budget, and the idea of owning a coupe with the extra door length for easy transfers from my wheelchair was appealing. What has truly impressed… Read more

me about this car is its remarkable mechanical reliability. Over the two years of ownership, I've spent just over $15,000, which includes the purchase price and on-road costs. As someone who isn't wealthy, I appreciate the fact that I can, at least some of the time, indulge in the illusion of owning a luxury car.

I'm well aware that one day, I may need to invest in some costly repairs, and that will be the reality check. But for now, I couldn't be happier with my purchase of this car. It has proven to be a reliable companion that offers both affordability and comfort. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone in search of an affordable yet comfortable second-hand car. It's a testament to the value you can find in older vehicles, and it has certainly exceeded my expectations.

C200 Kompressor - one of the best cars i've owned, and i've owned a lot – I have no idea why these other guys are complaining about their cars. I have the w204 and i've owned it for over 5 years. I own a bmw as well, and a honda, toyota, audi, nissan, mitsubishi. Lets just say i love cars. The c200 is one of the best cars i have ever driven! I changed the oil every 7-10k and that was it. She didn't need anything else!… Read more

By the time i sold the vehicle it had 170,000km and it was in perfect condition and was still going amazingly beautiful i had full confidence in her/him. The engine was amazing.

So i have no idea how the others guys were taking care of their cars, but the c200 is an amazingly advanced vehicle for its age. It had auto release boot, front sensor, back sensor, rain sensor back in 2007! The paint and body is spot on. It still looks fantastic today. These c200 can easily reach 200,000km.

The self service i did on these cars were a bit troublesome since the plastic under cover had to be taken off to get to the oil sump but the car never failed on me. i'm vouching right now within the years (2007 to 2009), the c200 w204 mecedes benz is better than any comparable bmw or audi of its time, and is definitely 100% more reliable than any of them.

Today? I'm not so sure. But I've got a new bmw x series and it doesn't feel anything in comparison to the driving feel of the w204. The w204 is a great car but you have to take care of it. one of the best cars i've owned for sure.

Mercedes proving poor products knowingly – Low quality Timing chains tensioners etc knowingly used by Mercedes in the w204 c200 engines. I will never buy another one. Lost a customer for ever !!!! Why destroy your previous good reputation? Show details

Mercedes C200K W204 Engine Timing Chain Failed Miserably. Very Disappointed And Costly – My C200K W204 2008 car had to be towed to the nearest garage on 06/02/2018 and had the timing chain, timing chain tensioner, exhaust and intake camshaft adjusters, cam magnets and cam adjuster wiring harness replaced, costing $4,800.00 (inc. GST). The timing chain and camshaft adjusters system are supposed to last the life time of the car but… Read more

failed miserably at 150,3590 KM. Apparently this is a common issue with M217 engine design after reading reviews by other Mercedes owners in Australia and US. Very disappointed with such prestigious and expensive car. Would be better off with a Japanese or Korean made car.

Excellent car to drive – An old car now at 2008 but a good car. Still drives nicely and it has some good features I like. it handles nicely and is quiet. light and whippers turn on Automatically and the door locks at 20 ks. The only thing it does not have which I would have liked is cup holder and split seat.  Show details

Perfect little car – It’s a very good looking car. I have the evo plus version with the full body kit. The drive is very smooth doing 0-100 in 6 seconds. To full up the tank $70. Leather two tone interior seats are comfortable and look great. Insurance isn’t that expensive either. It handles well round corners and has the kick down to go fast. It has paddle… Read more

gears on the steering wheel and handle break next to the break . I wouldn’t buy anything else but a Mercedes moving forward.

Good car – Bought it used in 2010 with 100 000 km, now 315 000 km. I mostly drive countryside roads with a heavy right foot. I change motor oil and filter every 12 000 km, Mobil 1 new life 0w40 engine still in perfect condition. Have not replaced timing chain and probably I won't, no stretch and in good condition. I do my own service and change easy parts myself. Most reliable car I ever had.  Show details

I loved this car and then the warranty ended – I have owned this car from new and while all cars breakdown, this does seem to have a few quirks that haunt me. The sunroof has been joyful but it has clogged and leaked from very early on. The sound-system, a harmon kardon option is truly amazing but the sub is so powerful it can loosen the parcel shelf, which now makes for a permanent rattle.… Read more

And as per all modern goods, all the surfaces are showing age. What a shame we can't have things that age gracefully.

W203 C200 Kom BEWARE of the 271 engine (PIG) – I have owned and loved Mercedes since the early 1980's and have owned almost every model. In recent years we have owned several C180- C200 (1998-2003) models and while they drive great things that shouldn't go wrong do go wrong. I just read about someone else having the internal door handles failing- like why- why should our door handles fail? … Read more

And why should we as Benz owners have to suffer the cost of the repairs. My latest horror is the engines that begin with 271 have several design faults and cost a fortune to fix. I googled and got advice from experts who point out the cheap crappy parts- the chain- the sprockets - the hoses all 100% cheap crap. I also looked at law suits in the USA against Benz. Simply not good enough. Everything from the crap cheap keys- to air intake sensors- are just very poor- and so after many years of marriage I think it's time for me to end my relationship with Merc. I would stay if they stood up like men and admitted their mistakes- but no- they just leave their many agents to ignore many complaints and then hand you a bill that looks more like a telephone number.

Excellent car but not good for rural areas – I enjoy driving my C200 very much, it has a class of it's own. The seats are not very comfortable and too firm for long journeys. The specs and electronics are amazingly advanced for a car built in 2007. It has all the fruits that a driver needs, cruise control, auto lights and auto wipers, bluetooth, GPS etc. The other design flaw is the storage… Read more

space which is not very practical. you can't fit anything practical in the door bins to the glove compartment, maybe a pair of gloves or a pen but certainly not a bottle of water!

I had to move to a small rural town couple of month ago and that's where the problem started. There are no experienced mechanic for MB here. I have to drive 2.5 hours to nearest MB garage for service and that's not convenient. Unfortunately I have decided to sell my car and buy a Japanese which is much easier to look after in where I live.

Horrible experience – Purchased a C200k 2002 from a dealer serveral years ago (made in South Africa), as a used car with 60k on it - had the car for 4 years and it was a total lemon. Once when driving through the cross city tunnel, the gear leave came out of the fluffed up leather casing and was literaly hanging by a wire. The front door internal handles also came… Read more

clean off (from both doors, a few months apart) - this is just so basic that it would not and should occur on ANY car, even after you've given it up for scrap. The dealer didn't bat an eye lid at any of these - they'd seen this too often to be affected, but still tried to get out of fixing it. The 3 pointed start on the bonnet began to rust (cheap chrome plating) - the dealer tried to pull the wool by saying this was not due to bad quality, but due to a stone chip whilst driving. When I pointed out that the rust was evenly spread across the back portion of the star and stone chips also usually obey the laws of physics, they replaced the emblem. Then the radio would not accept AM reception and the rear window got jammed (the sun roof also continually jammed). There is just so much tecnhology crammed into these cars then once they are more than 3 years old, things start to go wrong and the dealers scratch their heads trying to figure out how to fix it. When the car started juddering unexpectedly at low speeds, I'd had enough and sold it off for $13,000 - I'd bought it for $39,000 - I now have a brand new toyota yaris and have never been happier - I don't tense up everytime I get into the seat thinking of what could go wrong and how much it would take me to fix. MB's obsession of profit over reliability has turned away a lot of buyers....

Not bad car – Well everyone expect MB to be something that never ever break. We bought second hand C200 Kompressor and in general are happy with it. Fuel consumption is reasonable for a 4 cyl. car. Looks nice inside and out, little uncomfortable on longer trips (may be because of low profile tyres) and space is not bad for car that size. Mercedes service not… Read more

sure what to say about them because since we bought car we look after it (replacing oils, filters, spark plugs etc). Just did 100 K service and found that fuel filter was never replaced (that's why I don't take to the dealers, service car with someone that you know and can trust or DIY). In general not top of the range but not bad little car.

I don't regret trading my BMW in – Absolutely sensational, what more can I say? I have been a loyal BMW owner for many years and have always brought 5 Series for the additional level of technology. When the W204 first came into Australia I couldn't take my eyes off it. The design was second to none and not typically ugly like its predecessors. I test drove one and was so impressed… Read more

with EVERYTHING! After a lot of agonizing, I had someone hit my car and write it off. I decided to bite the bullet and have not looked back since.

It's comfortable, sporty and packed full of features and buttons. I'm so impressed my next purchase will again be a Mercedes.

Was definitely worth paying a little extra for an Avantegarde.

Was looking at the new BMW's closed the dearch window typed in Merc - thank god my wife stopped me - would have had another one in the driveway. Styling, Price, Features Seats are a little ugly

Solid cruiser, built well, suspension is designed for comfort – Solid cruiser, built well, suspension is designed for comfort, not sporty driving. Too much body roll compared to the newer W204 which we always had during service. Bought it as MB Approved pre-owned, which came with 2-yr factory warranty (excluding interior). Engine timing chain came lose when car was 6-yrs old (90k kms), and this was fixed under… Read more

warranty. It is a known issue with the M271 engine. Transmission could have an extra gear for better millage on longer trips. Had the car for 2-years (which is the average time before we change car) and did about 28k during this period. Overall, a great car from its era and would recommend a proper check before buying one. As they are fairly inexpensive now, go with an 05-06 model as they are likely to have less issues. The badge, solid feel Expensive options when new, hence pretty hard to find one with more options than stock

Excellent – This is my second C-class (C200 W204 COMPRESSOR AVANTGARDE) I have it for 6 months now, and I just love it! Mercedes just makes you feel like a part of the car, and it goes where you want to go. Looks good, handles fantastic, made in Germany (not China!), one of the safest cars on the road. Without speed cameras on the road, life would really be… Read more ·  4

wonderful. Navigation system is complicated, but nothing that some studying and playing with can't cure. Windscreen wipers should be a bit better quality. It is a bit sluggish on hills, but it is only c200.
