If military-grade Humvees or the “run-of-the-mill” boulder crawler bores you to tears, and you simply can’t afford an M1 Abrams tank for your off-pavement adventures, look to Mercedes-Benz and their perfectly over-the-top G63 AMG 6×6. Yes folks, that’s six-wheel-drive, with enough torque to warp the earth’s crust (if that’s your thing).

The limited production beast is the result of a partnership with Austria’s Magna Steyr and is based on the military version of the Mercedes-Benz G320 CDI — and it’s positively bonkers. Stuffed with goodies like six driven wheels, a total of five locking diffs, low range gearing, 37-inch wheels and a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 with 536 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque, the G63 AMG 6×6 is clearly the biggest kind of compensation for shortcomings. The seven-speed automatic transmission is rightly partnered with a low range transfer case and up to 100 percent lock up of all six wheels. LaBrea Tar Pits, here we come. But it’s not all brute strength with no creature comforts. The 6×6 also has bespoke room for four, including diamond-quilted leather seats, plenty of tasty carbon fiber and a pickup bed with some sweet bench seats for your less well-off buddies. Mercedes plans on building a limited number for sale in the fall of 2013 at a cool price of around ~$526,000. The over half a mil price tage and access to plenty of gas certainly gives you the ability to say, “What did I just run over?” and not actually care about the answer.
