Restoring EndNote Tools in MS Word

If the EndNote Tool Menu is Missing: Updating/reinstalling Word deletes the EndNote‐menu related files. A possible solution involves opening Word and following these steps [Note: Pictured example uses Word 2007 -- see below for Word 2010 and 2013]:

After opening Word Options:

To restore EndNote tools in Word 2010-2013:

1. Click on the File menu and select Options
2. Click on Add-ins
3. Change the Manage options to Disabled Items
4. Click Go
5. Highlight any EndNote item(s) and click Enable [Note: if no EndNote items are present, download the latest updates from the EndNote web site http://www.endnote.com/enword2k7.asp ]
6. Click OK

Restoring the EndNote Tools in MS Word (MacIntosh Computers)

Problem: The EndNote tools are missing from the Word toolbar.

Fix: Install the Cite While You Write (CWYW) plug-in. In EndNote, click on "EndNote" in the upper left-hand corner > Customizer. Check the box next to Cite While You Write to install the plug-in. A restart of EndNote and Word may be necessary. You can also download the plug-in from EndNote Web.

Missing Floating Toolbar in MacIntosh

Problem: The EndNote floating toolbar has disappeared in my Mac version of EndNote.

Fix: In Word, go tothe Toolbars tab. Select EndNote and then View to enable the floating toolbar.
