Funky Old Patina Hi all, Just picked up my new (old) Mk2 but can't see the paint code anywhere for it? According to here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=17604.0 its under the carpet in the boot but I can't see a sticker anywhere. Any other way of finding the code? Its a 1986 and I think the colour may be: 9939, B3V, LB3V, W4 - Titian Red Metallic according to: http://www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/volkswagen/1986/all-models/ Cheers #1 · Oct 27, 2013 Hi all, Just picked up my new (old) Mk2 but can't see the paint code anywhere for it? Doesn't mean the car has been repaired. But yes they are on the rear panel inside the boot. Post a pic and we can probley guess the colour. If not your local paint mixer should be able to match it, but will probley have the code in the books :) 1 Reply #4 · Oct 27, 2013 will also be the same sticker in the service book if you have that #6 · Oct 27, 2013 Yup, looks like Titan Red to me :thumbs up: #7 · Oct 27, 2013 ^ Thanks mate. I see on that paint site I listed they have 2 titian red metallics listed with the following 2x paint codes? LB3V LE3T Odd?! #8 · Oct 27, 2013 (Edited) I believe there's two shades for different years. Edit- just enjoyed your website, love that Saab :D #9 · Oct 28, 2013 Cheers mate, I will take another look in the boot area but no sticker jumped out at me! Maybe I'll have to try VW and see what they say. #10 · Oct 28, 2013 It should be on the panel below the boot lid catch pin.. just above where the panel meets the boot floor... If it's completely OG in the boot, it might have a cover panel/plastics over the top of it!! #11 · Oct 28, 2013 Thanks Paul, I will have to take a look tomorrow when I get the car back from the MOT tester! Under the boot lid hatch part I will be looking. The fact that it's not easily visible means its either been taken off or is hidden like you say under some plastic covering. Very little has ever been put in the boot - the paint is really good round the shock towers. It still has the original dealer numberplates etc. so I don't think it's been rear-ended. Cheers! #12 · Oct 29, 2013 If you're still struggling, I'll take a picture of mine  #13 · Oct 29, 2013 Cheers Paul. I'm not getting it back until tomorrow now (cambelt/waterpump being done as I don't know when they were done last!). Is yours the same colour as mine? Similar year as well (pre-88)? Ta #14 · Oct 29, 2013 No, mine's a 91 and stratos blue, but as far as I'm aware, the sticker is always in the same location!! #15 · Oct 30, 2013 No worries Paul, I'll have a close look tomorrow and report back - I really want that code! #16 · Oct 30, 2013 Ok as an update I looked today and there is definitely no sticker - looks like it was ripped off - I wonder for what reason though? The car is still wearing its original numberplates and dealers sticker in the back window, so strange that someone would do this (ie its not had a shunt at the back)? Would I be able to get a definite paint code from VW's parts section or would they just tell me to get stuffed as the car is so old? Cheers #17 · Oct 31, 2013 Just phoned VW, and they don't have the chassis number or the registration plate on their system any more! Hmmm, I need to find someone with the same colour/year car as me! HELP! #18 · Nov 1, 2013 Ok I've found out elsewhere the paint code may be Gambia Red LA3B. I will get a touch-up pen to see how close it is... #19 · Nov 2, 2013 Looks too dark in the pic for Gambia I'd say. #20 · Nov 2, 2013 Well I've ordered a touch-up pen for just under a tenner so time will tell! Cheers mate Insert Quotes Post Reply
