nm950sm N I'm thinking about getting either a Zenith Z-5P or a Z-5RS (I know this is not the clone forum but I figure my question is a generic platform question) and am trying to decide which to get. This is going to be a toy, SBR'd and at times suppressed. The biggest thing I'm struggling with is that the MP5K format makes more sense when suppressed but the MP5 format will have more stock options and honestly I prefer the way it looks. Unfortunately at the moment I can't get both as is usually suggested! :690: Is there appreciable difference in handling and reliability between the two platforms? Any other things I should consider when choosing between the two platforms? #1 · Aug 7, 2015 I'm thinking about getting either a Zenith Z-5P or a Z-5RS (I know this is not the clone forum but I figure my question is a generic platform question) and am trying to decide which to get. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Aug 7, 2015 (Edited) German MP5 and MK5K are both reliable. Now if you can't make up your mind on which one... Get both! I started with the K and eventually got the fullsized. I sold the RS, just wasn't me and got an SD instead. Also picked up a 40.... Deal was to good to resist. They are all good when using a can. As far as the Zeniths go... Mostly hits with a few misses, so just be knowledgeable in what you get. I'll also add (to be fair) they are addressing the misses so also a good thing there. Platform is not the question as so much as who the manufacture is and the after purchasing support you receive. #3 · Aug 9, 2015 The standard size MP5 has always been my favorite, but whenever anyone is over, it is always the MP5k/ RS which they want to shoot. #4 · Aug 9, 2015 My view - #1 = MP5K (love the fast cyclic rate), #2 - MP5, #3 MP5-SD (dig the quiet but not the clean up so much)... #5 · Aug 10, 2015 The regular size MP5 is the king of the hill for all general purpose uses. The SD and the K are more specialized and have a narrower and more specific scope. #6 · Aug 10, 2015 If you want to use an optic, then having to use a mount will make a difference. I am constantly squishing my little finger against the mount while cocking the K. It is fast with a Sear. It is cool. I mostly choose the full size gun, as it is not a finger smasher with the mount. Since I use a sear, I like the slower ROF in the full size gun. If you are not using a sear or not using a mount, then flip a coin. #7 · Aug 13, 2015

Thanks for pointing this out. I'd like the ability to mount an optic. Leaning toward the full size, though still a hard choice... 0 Reply #8 · Aug 13, 2015 Went through the same thing here http://www.hkpro.com/forum/hk-clone-talk/222416-so-how-did-you-decide-between-mp5-mp5k-clone.html I ended up going with the fullsize. For one,it was in stock and when I added up the cost of sbring a K vs fullsize it was slightly cheaper. I like the full-size a lot AND I know I'll buy a K before long. They kind of go together. It would be like separating twins to not have both. #9 · Aug 13, 2015 I've heard that the K models are less reliable with suppressor than full size MP5. Basically, with the MP5K you need a different locking piece if you want to use suppressor, whereas full size MP5 doesn't require this. Can anyone here confirm this? #10 · Aug 14, 2015 While the #28 LP was developed for use with suppressed MP5K's and 147 gr. ammo, I haven't had any functional issues with the #16 in mine. It runs pretty fast and I'll probably try a #28 LP one day, it hasn't proved necessary for me. The K gun is cool, but my full size gets a lot more range time. #11 · Aug 14, 2015 Have you checked your "K" receiver for overfunction? Adding a suppressor has the same effect as increasing barrel length. Which intern increases dwell time. Longer dwell time increases the energy put into the bolt group. The bolt group can hit the back of the receiver so hard that the bolt drives back into the locking piece. The locking piece will drive the rollers out into the inside of the receiver rails. With enough over function and enough repeated pounding, the inside of the receiver rail damage, function can eventually be effected. The whole point of a locking piece in a roller locked gun is to divert most the the recoil energy of the bolt into the receiver, but to divert enough energy into the bolt group for reliable function. There is a balancing act between, enough energy in the bolt group without too much energy for overfunction damage. The #16 locking piece is designed to make a 4.5" "K" gun function hand held without a stock. Adding a shock to a "K", many recommend a standard MP5 100 degree locking piece. A #28 is for adding a stock and a suppressor. Both of which will increase energy to the bolt group. So a #28 will divert more energy into the receiver. To me, hands down, the "K" PDW is so much better than the full size. With a semi, cyclic rate isn't an issue. The "K" is so much more compact. I am fortunate enough to own a Fleming sear. The "K" guns I have (9mm "K", 9mm PDW, .40 S&W PDW, and 10mm PDW), get a lot more range time than the full size models I have. Name for me a 9mm carbine that is as small as a PDW that shoots as smooth. YMMV. Scott 0 Reply #12 · Aug 14, 2015 I don't think it's over functioning, but I will try a #28 and maybe a 100 degree LP and see if there is a difference in function. #14 · Aug 15, 2015 Look inside the receiver from the back. If there is dents on the inside of the rails, there is over function. There might or might not be. I don't know. But that is certainly an issue to be aware of if using a suppressor and a stock with a #16 LP in a "K" gun. YMMV. Scott 0 Reply #13 · Aug 15, 2015 K wins in my book! #15 · Aug 15, 2015 No dents in my receiver, but I'll definitely find a #28 LP sooner rather than later. I prefer to shoot suppressed since it's easier as my kids accompany me to the range 9 times out of 10. #16 · Aug 19, 2015 Good to hear. Positive extraction/ejection is good to a point. But the greater the energy in the bolt group, the harder it pounds, so more wear on the bolt group. So there needs to be a balance. If there isn't any marks, maybe standard 100 degree LP would work.
