The MSI Optix G27C4 has been replaced with the G27C5, a practically identical successor. In fact the only difference between the two monitors is their sRGB coverage, according to MSI. Oddly, the G27C5 has slightly worse sRGB coverage than its predecessor, although it still covers 113% of the colour space.
It is not entirely clear why MSI decided to release a new model, especially one that seemingly includes so few changes. The G27C5 remains a 27-inch panel with a 1500R curvature that operates at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Likewise, the G27C5 is capable of outputting in up to 165 Hz with 1 ms response times. The panel peaks at 250 nits, though.
MSI has not added any new connections, either. A DisplayPort 1.2 or one of two HDMI 1.4 inputs should be enough video outputs for most gamers, even if the HDMI connections are limited to 144 Hz.
Overall, the G27C5 is an exceptionally minor upgrade over the G27C4. Monitor Nerds has spotted that the G27C5 has a Samsung VA panel, the supplier of which MSI did not disclose for the G27C4. MSI is yet to announce pricing, but we would expect the G27C5 to cost about the same as its predecessor, which retails for US$250.
