"Much", "many", và "a lot of" đều là những từ chỉ số lượng nhiều. Ví dụ: "I have a lot of friends " có nghĩa "tôi có nhiều bạn bè".
- "much" đi với danh từ không đếm được (money, bread, water...)
- "many" với danh từ đếm được (students, desks, windows...)
- "a lot", "lots of", "a lot of" có thể đi với cả hai loại danh từ trên.
- Không dùng "a lot", "lots of", "a lot of" trong câu hỏi và câu phủ định.

Ngoài ra, "a lot", "a lot of", "lots of" thường được dùng trong văn nói cũng như trong văn viết không trang trọng. Khi viết văn trang trọng hoặc trong các hoàn cảnh cần sự nghiêm túc, nên dùng "many" và "much".
