The myth of Enki and Ninhursag is related on tablets dating from the time of Ur III and Paleo-Babylon , of ancient Mesopotamia .
The story narrates how Enki blessed the paradise land of Dilmun , at the request of Ninsikil causing the water to gush and that ships of Tukric, and other places carried gold and precious stones. The text then narrates the incestuous story of Ninhursag, Enki and his daughters, Ninsar , Ninkurra and Uttu : Enki has relations with his daughters and Ninhursag takes revenge by causing eight illnesses; later Enlil , with the help of a fox, brings Ninhursag to Enki, who had sworn not to see him favorably until the day of his death. Finally he agrees to undo the spell and creates eight deities to heal each of the diseases.
Poem
Enki and Ninhursag lived in Dilmun, the pure, clean and bright land of life, the garden of the Great Gods and the earthly paradise. A virgin and pristine land, where lions do not kill, wolves do not take lambs, pigs do not know that grains are to eat . He and she have a daughter named Ninsar; When Ninhursag leaves him, Enki seduces Ninsar and has relations with her, which gives him a daughter named Ninkurra.
Ninsar went out one day to the river bank Enki could see from the top of the swamp Ask your counselor Isimud Am I not going to kiss this beautiful young lady? My teacher can make them, let me browse She got in the boat, and then I hug her He spread his semen on Ninsar's womb For her nine months were nine days As oil in abundance gave birth to NinkurraFor the second time Enki, he seduces his daughter and granddaughter Ninkurra and has relations with her which in turn gives him a daughter named Uttu . Enki once again succumbs to temptation and tries to seduce her, deceives Uttu (he tells her that he is the gardener, so that she opens the door for him), then he gets him drunk and then makes love to her.
Uttu annoyed with her father's attitude, goes with Ninhursag, she gets angry at the promiscuous nature of who had been her consort and removes the semen that had remained in Uttu.
Uttu the exalted woman …… stood to the left for him Enki deflowered Uttu (sexually aroused) He held her to his chest Touched perverting her crotch Caressed his English, with his hands He kissed and made love to the youngest Enki poured his semen into Uttu's womb She conceived the semen in the womb, the semen of Enki Uttu, woke up and yelled “calamity! My English ” "calamity! My liver ”,“ calamity! My heart" Ninhursag saw her and removed the semen from her bodyNinhursag plants Enki's semen on the ground, eight plants quickly germinated. Enki was walking through the forest one day and he sees the plants, they attract his attention because he had not yet decreed the fate of those plants, he asked Isimud his adviser, and he cuts them and feeds them. Then Enki becomes seriously ill, in eight parts of his body. Very angry, Ninhursag swore not to see him favorably until the day of his death.
Finally Ninhursag, convinced by Enlil (with the help of a fox) and the Anunnaki undoes her spell, healing Enki and creates eight deities named Abu , Nintulla , Ninsutu , Ninkasi , Nazi , Dazimua , Ninti and Enshag , for each of the Enki's discomforts.
The case of Ninti is particular, since Ninhursag creates her when the god replies that the "OT" hurts. This response, which means both rib and life, has as a consequence the creation of Ninti, lady of life, in which we can perceive a parallel with the biblical Eve. [ 1 ]
Ninhursag in his temple guaranteed his life, the text relates that he sat Enki in his bosom, then he touched ... (fragmented lines) and said:
