History Behind Isopropanol...

Who did what? What is what? What can it do?

Isopropanol's Chemical Formula...

C3OH8

Synthesis

Isopropanyl can enter the environment in one way:
  1. It can enter directly from the manufacture.

The Identification Process

  • Standard Oil was the first company to poduce Isopropanyl alcohol in the year 1920. However at the time people did not know that it could do what it does today. During World War I it was mainly used as an acetone. The acetone was then used in the production of the explosive Cordite.
  • However, the company of DOW is known for the production of Isopropanol.

What Reactions Can Create It?

Propene treated with hydrolyzed with sulfuric acid (as a catalyst) C3H6 + H2O + (sulfuric acid as a catalyst) = C3OH8
