  Thank you to all of the kids and families who joined us for NGV Kids Summer Festival 2026! From 10–16 January, NGV International and NGV Australia Fed Square were a hub of free family fun, with highlights like a joke workshop with comedian Rich Higgins, dancing in the Great Hall with Kids Disco parties, a make-your-own party hat workshop, hands-on drawing activities, storytelling sessions, a behind-the-scenes Conservations tour for teens and more. Little party people also showed off their best moves at our free kids exhibition Let’s Party! Fashion for Kids Designed By Danielle Brustman, and captured the moment in the Mercedes-Benz Valet Photobooth — with thanks to Major Partner Mercedes-Benz Australia. Plus, NGV came to you this January with free art-making activities for the whole family at over 160 locations across Victoria – from Wangaratta to Warburton and beyond. What a way to kick off 2026!   Westwood | Kawakubo is here. The doors are open to our world-premiere exhibition of two global fashion icons – only at NGV. With over 150 works by Vivienne Westwood and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, this major international exhibition places these iconic designers in dialogue for the very first time.   Looking at art in a gallery reduces stress, according to new research out of the UK. A study from Kings College London has found that viewing art in a gallery has a potential calming effect – lowering stress hormones in study participants who stopped by the Cortauld Gallery to view work by Van Gogh, Manet and Gaugin. Endorsed by ICOM Australia (International Council of Museums) for their Adaptive Climate Control Strategy, the NGV is leading the way in reducing carbon emissions by developing, testing and implementing wider environmental settings that are better adapted to collection galleries and operations, without impacting the condition of collection material.
