Greg_I G I thought I was done with this after my last post... http://www.ffcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=255897 So my alternator pulley nut came loose again today, can someone provide the torque spec for it? It is for a '89 mustang GT alternator. I am going to put Loctite on it too. Greg Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Sep 7, 2010 Lot of years on these things -- only success I have had (both taking the nut off and putting it back on) is using an air gun at a moderate setting. Would be interested in the actual torque specification as well if anyone has a reliable source. Regardless, I would think twice about the thread-locker -- break-away on that might make future removal more interesting than needed..... Regards, Bill #3 · Sep 7, 2010 My '87 shop manual covers several alternators (available back then) and they all show 60 to 100 lb-ft for the pulley nut. Hard part is trying to hold it from turning while you torque it down. Cheers, Rod #4 · Sep 7, 2010 I'm more concerned about that loose nut behind the steering wheel........:w00t: If I recall correctly my March pulley set jsut said use a impact wrench to loosen the old one. It gave to torque setting to tighten. #5 · Sep 7, 2010 I was able to get 70 ft-lbs on it, we'll see how that holds! #6 · Sep 7, 2010 I hold the pulley (avoiding the cooling fins) by hand w/ a heavy leather work glove and hit it w/ a 1/2 drive impact wrench. I just don't have any way to positively hold the pulley w/o damaging it so i could torque it. Insert Quotes Post Reply
