Isn't it unlikely that they managed to get their tubeless gp5000 tire down to 215gr from 300gr in just one iteration? I suspect it's the non tubeless version or there's a major compromise. Top online TobinHatesYou Posts: 15297 Joined: Mon Jul 24, 2017 12:02 pm- Quote

I suspect it's the non tubeless version or there's a major compromise. It's very likely because the GP5K TL was the outlier and several other tubeless tires are in that range...such as the Vittoria Corsa Speed, Schwalbe Pro One TT, Hutchinson Fusion 5 Galactik 11Storm, Veloflex Corsa Race, etc. The GP5000 TL used a solid butyl liner whereas Conti "TR" tires use kind of a meshy liner. Besides, TR means tubeless-ready. Attachments

What if they keep the TL version as is but what we're seeing is the non tubeless version to be upgraded to TR? Top online TobinHatesYou Posts: 15297 Joined: Mon Jul 24, 2017 12:02 pm- Quote

I think the 225g value for the 25mm is more likely correct. The 28mm will probably be around 260g. The 215g/235g are copied from the regular clincher specs. Either way I expect an all new tire because the current GP5K TL uses non-standard bead dimensions. Top online

Dropping that much weight, I suspect these are an out and out race tyre and offer little to no durability or puncture protection. Top online FlatlandClimber Posts: 2537 Joined: Tue Mar 31, 2020 3:37 pm- Quote

Jan Frodeno was racing his world record attempt and the Collins Cup yesterday on unbranded Conti 5000, that were set up tubeless. The TR will definitely be a Tubeless tire, and if used in triathlon, it will likely be faster rolling that it is good at. Sounds like Vittoria Corsa Speed is going to have some competition then. Except, as Tobin mentioned, if you're actually going to be able to get it for the 2022 season. Also, considering the tyre having the same profile as the normal Continental GP5000, it will likely have the same aerodynamic advantage. With "only" 4.5W less rolling resistance, we would have an equal match for the Vittoria Corsa Speed 2.0. I would actually be happier with using a Conti on bad courses and then the Veloflex on good courses. Corsa Speed had less than 1.5W advantage vs Conti GP5000TL, as per bicyclerollingresistance. Ahh, ok, you probably refer to Aerocoach data, where the difference is bigger. Corsa Speeds are surprisingly robust for a flat-out TT tyre. Ahh, ok, you probably refer to Aerocoach data, where the difference is bigger. Corsa Speeds are surprisingly robust for a flat-out TT tyre. You are correct (I edited that in). Why is the difference on BRR so different? Clincher tires all use 100g butyl tubes in their testing, which are known to be slow. A clincher and a TL tire are usually testing equally fast, when the clincher is equipped with a fast Latex tube. BRR only tests on a metal drum, with AC testing on Rollers, and Track. The metal drum give some indication but fails to tell the whole picture. Even wide tires usually Test fastest at the highest pressure and we know that's not correct. Also, the Crr from BRR is one wheel/ tire only, so the 1.5W difference is at least 3W. I must say just from feeling (not scientific, not accurate, but all I have), the Corsa Speed is significantly faster than the Conti, and the Veloflex is significantly faster than both.
