New Metrobus Service: NH2 National Harbor Alexandria Line

NH2 Bus Event The new Metrobus NH2 National Harbor-Alexandria Line connects the Huntington, Carlyle and Old Town neighborhoods of Alexandria, Virginia to National Harbor in Maryland via the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Since opening in 2008, National Harbor has brought new jobs and destinations to Oxon Hill; and the Huntington, Carlyle and Old Town business, residential and activity centers in Alexandria continue to grow. Route NH2 also serves as a cross-Potomac River connection for the National Harbor and the southern Maryland areas to Blue and Yellow line Metrorail service at the Huntington and King Street-Old Town Metrorail stations. Popular connections and destinations include:
  • In Maryland: National Harbor, including retail and restaurant destinations, the Capital Wheel, Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, MGM (opening Dec. 2016), Oxon Hill Park & Ride, and connections to Metro's Green Line via Metrobus and Prince George's County's TheBus service
  • In Virginia: Historic Old Town Alexandria, including retail and restaurant destinations, the George Washington Masonic Temple, access to Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens, Patent and Trademark Office Headquarters, Metrobus connections to many City of Alexandria and Fairfax County destinations, including Tysons, and Fairfax Connector and DASH service
Metrobus Route NH2 provides a convenient option for commuters traveling to and from work, including Virginians traveling to National Harbor, Tanger Outlets, and MGM, and Maryland commuters traveling to Old Town, Carlyle, or making an easy connection at the Huntington Metrorail station to the Richmond Highway Express (REX) bus service to Fort Belvoir. In addition, customers traveling to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport will have an easy and direct connection to Metrorail at the King Street-Old Town station. The route also allows entertainment seekers to leave their cars behind for a hassle-free ride to dining and entertainment on both sides of the river. Metrobus NH2 Facts:
  • Service operates every 30 minutes, seven days a week, from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m.
  • The route is the first in 13 years to provide service across the reconstructed Woodrow Wilson Bridge and it will be the only direct cross-Potomac transit connection between Virginia and Maryland.
  • Prior to this new service, customers had the sole option of travelling through Washington, DC to reach business, retail, and entertainment destinations on either side of the bridge, a source of concern for residents who can clearly view cross-river development.
  • The route is funded by National Harbor developer Peterson Companies, the City of Alexandria, Fairfax County and the Maryland Department of Transportation in a unique public/private partnership.
