Aussiemac A Hi. I have recently gone through my baler and replaced stretched chains and given a once over. Even set my flywheel clutch up to the correct spec for the first time. My pickup/knotter clutch has always been almost spring bound to keep that part turning. I can’t seem to find a replacement part number for those friction discs. Would anyone be able to help? As shown in another recent post which is why I got to doing some overdue maintenance, my Australian version has the knotter clutch down the back driving two other short chain instead of driving from the gearbox output like my manual shows. #1 · Jul 21, 2022 Hi. The clutch does not protect the knotter drive, only the pickup. Yes, it probably needs attention, but to get to the clutch to replace the discs could end up costing you the outer sprocket. The discs, themselves, are probably a bronze disc which seldom wear out. My suggestion is to remove the bolts and springs and separate the parts. If the plates are metal, then clean the parts of oil and dirt as best you can and reassemble. If the discs are a fiber disc, then try to clean the discs as best you can. If the discs need to be replaced, then that is what you will need to do. 80128502 is the part number for a 276 baler which should be the same disc as what you need. Being bronze, the plates are a little pricey. #3 · Jul 21, 2022 Thanks Mike. I was looking at that today thinking there is a fair bit to getting at those plates. Bit of a kick after just replacing the chains and timing it all up. I’ll have a go at backing them off and cleaning them before I go all the way. I do know they have been spring bound since I’ve owned it. First up I used the correct spring measurements but it wouldn’t turn the pickup at all. Down the track I replaced the pickup carrier bearings and again had a go at the correct spring length but same thing. In the end I nipped up the nuts a flat at a time to get to the point where it wouldn’t slip on decent windrows but it got me back to spring bound. I guess if it’s worked for years I shouldn’t fix something to the point that it’s broken? Insert Quotes Post Reply
