Nuh residents form human chain along NH-248, demand widening of stretch

‘Most accidents happen because of highway being narrow’

Several residents in neighbouring Nuh formed a human chain along National Highway-248, also known as Gurugram-Alwar Highway, and staged a demonstration seeking the widening of the stretch passing through the district.

They later marched from Nagina College to Badkali Chowk raising slogans to demand that the highway be widened to six lanes from Sohna to Alwar. Manch’s convener Rajuddin Meo said around 1,300 people had lost their lives in accidents on the stretch over the past five years.

He added that most of the accidents were caused because the highway was not wide enough.

Mr. Meo accused the present and the previous governments of step-motherly treatment to the region and not widening the highway.

No action taken

Manch’s vice-president Mohammad Ilyas said a foundation stone was laid for the widening of the road during Congress regime in 2008, but nothing happened.
