Trade Member T Customer arrives with VW Transporter T5 complaining of central locking not working by remote keys, and advises that the engine is difficult to start. I was advised the ECM had been read for codes and the above code was present. What I have done to date. Tested both keys with a signal receiver (Sykes), the keys did not produce any output signals. I advised the customer after opening the keys that the circuit boards were green molded, hence VW supplied two new keys. I have tested these two new keys with the signal receiver (Sykes) and both keys transmit radio signals OK. Using the Snap On scanner I tried to communicate with the central door locking module but the scanner (although) has the software will not access the VW system. I read the engine management system OK and the above code was also read by me, so it is present. I am now not sure at the moment if the scanner is the problem not accessing the module or there is a vehicle related fault stopping the scanner communicating with the central door locking module? I have had a look on AD and their information refers to an incorrect damaged key, which is now overruled, incorrect coding, maybe, but the van will start and run, although when the engine is cold it takes a while to start, and sometimes when the engine will not start the immobilizer and diesel heater light will flash in phase advising the signal has not been received from the key. AD goes on to advise that the ECM/Immobilizer replacement without coding is a known fault, although this is very unlikely in this case, the wiring could be an issue, although again is unlikely in this case, or the immobilizer is defective? AD however don't have any check procedures to confirm/dismiss any components in the system, i.e. Read Coil checks, Module inputs/outputs etc, so I seem to be left with plug and play and I don't like that method of diagnosis! I have bought another VAG-COM scanner and hopefully it will arrive over the next couple of days, the instructions advise that the PIN can be read from the ECM and a reprogram can be performed, but if non of this works has anyone got any ideas where I can attain more detailed checking procedures from? Thanks TM See less See more Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Mar 13, 2016 VAG Error Code: 17978/005488/6260/5523 EOBD II Error Code: P1570 Fault Location: Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer - Intermittent Possible Cause: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active. Immobilizer Warning Lamp ON. Engine starting but stalling immediately. Key(s) not matched. Instrument Cluster not matched. Engine Control Module (ECM) not matched. Engine Control Module (ECM) Power Supply faulty. Possible Solutions: Check for Fault Codes in Immobilizer itself (part of Instrument Cluster in many cars, but separate Immobilizer Control Module in some). Check Immobilizer Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) (usually in Instrument Cluster or Immobilizer Control Module). Match Key(s)/Instrument Cluster/Electronic Control Unit (ECU). Check Engine Control Module (ECM) Power Supply (Relay). Special Notes: In case of Engine Starting Issues please make sure that you are really experience an Immobilizer related Problem! Even if the Immobilizer engages, the Engine will still start fine but cut out after 2-3 Seconds. If you are NOT experiencing this behaviour (e.g. Engine doesn't start at all) your Problem is very likely NOT Immobilizer related. May be stored in Combination with 01176 - Key: Signal too Low in Immobilizer Control Module. If no other immobilizer related fault codes are stored and the immobilizer related measuring blocks are fine except Engine Start not allowed, in rare occasions it helps to try cold-booting the car. Remove both battery cables from the battery. Short the battery cables together (away from the battery) for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery. (Example.) Low battery voltage (including a faulty battery) may cause Immobilizer system malfunctions and testing should be done only with a known good battery installed. As taken from my new EOBD II Fault Codes Software #3 · Mar 15, 2016 Thanks Keith, I am now trying for the first time to program two new keys in this transporter, however the VAG + K CAN device does not provide sufficient details to know exactly how many digits of the key code should be entered, the key tags have 11 characters mixed numbers and letters, I'm sure the letters should not be entered into VAG, and I don't know how many numbers or which few numbers I should enter, any help appreciated, thanks.
