Ronnie77 I am in the market for my first P7 and not sure what the differences are. Personally I like the M8 & M13 models, but never had them side by side to compare, so I had a few questions. This would be my carry from time to time. Other than the difference in mag capacity, what else differs between the two? I have looked at prices and there seems to be a big difference from the M8 to the M13. What else could be so different to command a $1000 price difference? I would much rather have 13rds at my finger tips as opposed to 8rd, but I am not going to pay that much more for a few extra rounds. Because of the extra round capacity, does the M13 have a wider grip? Are they the same size? What are the differences? #1 · Dec 18, 2009 I am in the market for my first P7 and not sure what the differences are. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Dec 18, 2009 Yes the grip is wider. Overall size, except grip thickness, is the same. I always preferred the way th P7M8 felt when I would ge the chance to shoot one, as opposed to the M13. Other than capacity, I don't think there is any difference in the two, other than mags and the frames. #3 · Dec 18, 2009 The M13 has a big 'ole booty. The grip is a bit wide for me as I have grown accustomed to the regular P7. Loaded up the difference in weight is noticeable. I think it's kinda ridiculous to pay that much more for the M13, as the M8 or Plain Jane P7 is much more sleek, lighter and conceals better. P7 and P7M8 mags are expensive enough. M13 mags are outrageous at about $100 a mag. #4 · Dec 18, 2009 The difference is purely personal. Some prefer the smaller grip of the 8, others prefer the 13. Holding, and better yet, shooting one is the only real way to make up your mind. The 13 fits me fine. My hand is medium, but my fingers are a bit long and slender. While my hand is medium, I generally wear size large gloves to get the fingers to fit. I have a nephew who is just the opposite, big meaty hands with very stubby fat fingers. I doubt he could wrap his hand around a 13 very well. #5 · Dec 18, 2009 I do appreciate the replies and it seems the M8 is the one for me. This is what I originally was thinking, but just wanted to get some input. I do prefer a thinner, lighter carry gun. Yes, 13rds is nice, but no, I am not going to pay $2500+ just for a few extra rounds. #6 · Dec 18, 2009 P7 (PSP "type")- "European" heel mag release, no heat shield, flush fitting bushing requires a takedown tool to remove the FP assembly. Takes P7 magazines (different then M8)-9mm capacity 8rnds. $500-$750 depending on condition or "grade" (police trade in's are graded A, B, or C in reference to visible wear). P7M8- "American" style mag. release (located near trigger guard), heat shield, raised bushing for no tools removal of the FP assembly. Takes M8 magazines-9mm capacity 8rnds. $1000-$1600 depending on condition. P7M13- Mag. release located near trigger guard. Heat sheild. 9mm, capacity 13rnds. double stack. P7M10- Mag. release located near trigger guard. Heat sheild. .40S&W capacity 10rnds. double stack. P7K3- Convertible to 3 calibers, .22LR, .32ACP, and .380ACP. Mag. release located near trigger guard. No heat sheild. Uses an inertia blow-back action, unlike the gas-retarded action of the other P7 series pistols. P7M7- .45 ACP, capacity 7rnds. single stack. Mag. release located near trigger guard. No heat sheild. Used a hydraulic buffer unit unlike the gas-retarded action of the other P7 series pistols. *Never made it past prototype*. Only 6 exist, HK owns them all. #7 · Dec 18, 2009 Thank you for the breakdown. 0 Reply #8 · Dec 18, 2009 Ronnie: I have normal average size hands and wear a "Large" glove (sometimes a XL depending on the maker). I have both guns and the M13 is a MUCH wider grip due to the double stack. (Think Sig 226 with wood grips) It's much more of a factor when I'm shooting because my hand gets sore due to having it spread so wide to accomodate that grip. So for me, I miss the 5 extra rounds as well, but the M8 is MUCH MORE comfortable and concealable due to its single stack. Good luck! #9 · Dec 25, 2009 Ronnie, I guess I'm a little late but I was going through the same dilemma you were having. I actually decided to get the single stack, but I happened to run into a P7M13 for a super price. The grip doesn't feel as large as my USP in .45, but I would prefer the single stack. I see that you are in Philly, I live north of the city. If you want to try out a M13, you're more than welcome to shoot mine. Insert Quotes Post Reply
