Hello, I am getting my car painted, however I am confused with the paints codes. The VIN plate under the hood says the paint code is 702M, which I believe translates into color code = 702, and M being the code for paint manufacturer. Searching on the internet the 702 corresponds to "smoke silver (rauchsilber)" ; whereas my car is golden colour ! and it has not been repainted before. I went to the paint shop (De Beer dealer) and according to his catalog 702 shows up as golden ; just like it is on the car. Please help me solve this confusion. Please suggest which manufacturer's paint is recommended ? is "De Beer" any good ? Thanks for your time. Not sure about the significance/meaning of the letter "M" following. I just looked at the "Build Sheet" for my 97 SL320 which was supplied to me by MB USA. It shows the following for my car - paintwork 1 (702 U Metallic Paint, Smoke Silver Smoke Silver-Metallic.) Paintwork 2 (702 O Metallic Paint, Smoke Silver Smoke Silver-Metallic).
