Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G6 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Panasonic G85 has external dimensions of 128 x 89 x 74 mm (5.04 x 3.5 x 2.91″) and weighs 505 g (1.11 lb / 17.81 oz) (including batteries). Panasonic G6 has external dimensions of 122 x 85 x 71 mm (4.8 x 3.35 x 2.8″) and weighs 390 g (0.86 lb / 13.76 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Panasonic G85 and the Panasonic G6. Panasonic G6 is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 6mm narrower, 4mm shorter and 3mm thinner than Panasonic G85.
Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Panasonic G6 is significantly lighter (115g ) than the Panasonic G85 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.
Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since both Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G6 have the same Micro Four Thirds lens mount and Four Thirds sized sensors, lenses will not be a differentiator on total size of the system.
Weight ComparisonMirrorless Cameras
G85 G6 Min Average Max Thickness ComparisonMirrorless Cameras
G85 G6 Min Average Max Weather SealingWith its weather-sealed body, we believe that the G85 has a big advantage over the G6 which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.
LCD Screen Size and FeaturesPanasonic G85 and Panasonic G6's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.
Both cameras feature Fully Articulating screens where you can change the angle of the screen to make it easier to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels. Fully articulating screens are also useful for taking Selfies and video. Both Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G6 have Four Thirds sized 16.0 MP resolution sensors so sensor size and resolution is not a differentiator between these two cameras.
Another difference between these two cameras is that Panasonic G85's sensor lacks anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.
Below you can see the G85 and G6 sensor size comparison.
Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G6 have the same sensor sizes so they will provide same level of control over the depth of field when used with same focal length and aperture.
DxOMark Sensor ScoresBoth Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G6 sensors have been tested by DxoMark. DxoMark scores camera sensors for color depth (DXO Portrait), dynamic range (DXO Landscape) and low-light sensitivity (DXO Sports), and also gives them an overall score. Of the two cameras that we are comparing, G85 has scored 71, 10 points higher than G6.
| Model | Overall | Color Depth | Dynamic Range | Low-light ISO |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Panasonic G85 | 71 | 22.8 bits | 12.5 Evs | 656 ISO |
| Panasonic G6 | 61 | 21.3 bits | 11.5 Evs | 639 ISO |
The number of available lenses is a big deciding factor when choosing your interchangeable lens camera. Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G6 have the same Micro Four Thirds lens mount and currently there are 132 native lenses available for these cameras.
Another important factor is the availability of image stabilization. Panasonic G85 has a big advantage in this regard because it has a sensor based image stabilization (IS) which means that all the lenses mounted to this body will be stabilized. On the other hand, Panasonic G6 doesn't have this feature so you have to buy a lens with optical stabilization feature. Currently there are 39 lenses for Micro Four Thirds mount with Optical Image Stabilization features.
