Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G7 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Panasonic G85 has external dimensions of 128 x 89 x 74 mm (5.04 x 3.5 x 2.91″) and weighs 505 g (1.11 lb / 17.81 oz) (including batteries). Panasonic G7 has external dimensions of 125 x 86 x 77 mm (4.92 x 3.39 x 3.03″) and weighs 410 g (0.90 lb / 14.46 oz) (including batteries).

Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Panasonic G85 and the Panasonic G7. Panasonic G7 is 3mm narrower and 3mm shorter than Panasonic G85 but it is also 3mm thicker.

Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Panasonic G7 is significantly lighter (95g ) than the Panasonic G85 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.

Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since both Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G7 have the same Micro Four Thirds lens mount and Four Thirds sized sensors, lenses will not be a differentiator on total size of the system.

Mirrorless Cameras

G85 G7 Min Average Max Weather Sealing

With its weather-sealed body, we believe that the G85 has a big advantage over the G7 which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.

LCD Screen Size and Features

Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G7's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.

Both cameras feature Fully Articulating screens where you can change the angle of the screen to make it easier to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels. Fully articulating screens are also useful for taking Selfies and video.

Both Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G7 have Four Thirds sized 16.0 MP resolution sensors so sensor size and resolution is not a differentiator between these two cameras.

Another difference between these two cameras is that Panasonic G85's sensor lacks anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.

Below you can see the G85 and G7 sensor size comparison.

Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G7 have the same sensor sizes so they will provide same level of control over the depth of field when used with same focal length and aperture.

The number of available lenses is a big deciding factor when choosing your interchangeable lens camera. Panasonic G85 and Panasonic G7 have the same Micro Four Thirds lens mount and currently there are 130 native lenses available for these cameras.

Another important factor is the availability of image stabilization. Panasonic G85 has a big advantage in this regard because it has a sensor based image stabilization (IS) which means that all the lenses mounted to this body will be stabilized. On the other hand, Panasonic G7 doesn't have this feature so you have to buy a lens with optical stabilization feature. Currently there are 39 lenses for Micro Four Thirds mount with Optical Image Stabilization features.
