Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Panasonic G9 and Canon G9 X II side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Panasonic G9 has external dimensions of 137 x 97 x 92 mm (5.39 x 3.82 x 3.62″) and weighs 658 g (1.45 lb / 23.21 oz) (including batteries). Canon G9 X II has external dimensions of 98 x 58 x 31 mm (3.86 x 2.28 x 1.22″) and weighs 206 g (0.45 lb / 7.27 oz) (including batteries).
Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Panasonic G9 and the Canon G9 X II. Canon G9 X II is clearly the smaller of the two cameras. Its body is 39mm narrower, 39mm shorter and 61mm thinner than Panasonic G9. As you can tell, actually this is not a fair size comparison since Canon G9 X II has a built-in lens but Panasonic G9 doesn't. Once you put a lens on G9, its thickness will increase significantly.
Here is the back view size comparison of the Panasonic G9 and Canon G9 X II.
Now lets look at the top view comparison of Panasonic G9 and Canon G9 X II.Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Canon G9 X II is significantly lighter (452g ) than the Panasonic G9 which may become a big advantage especially on long walking trips.
Again, this comparison may not be very useful in real life as we are comparing the weight of a camera with a built-in lens to the body-only weight of an interchangeable lens camera. Once you put a lens on G9, the total kit will weigh much higher. Weather SealingWith its weather-sealed body, we believe that the G9 has a big advantage over the G9 X II which doesn't provide any kind of environmental sealing.
LCD Screen Size and FeaturesPanasonic G9 and Canon G9 X II's LCD screens have the same diagonal size of 3.00 inches.
On the other hand, Panasonic G9 sports a Fully Articulated screen which you can change the angle and position of the screen almost freely, making it possible to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels, and especially very useful for shooting selfies and video. Canon G9 X II's LCD screen is a fixed type which provides almost no flexibility in shooting positions compared to G9.Both Panasonic G9 and Canon G9 X II have 20.0 MP resolution sensors but Panasonic G9's sensor is Four Thirds (17.3 x 13 mm ) and Canon G9 X II's sensor is 1″ (13.2 x 8.8 mm ).
Since Panasonic G9's has a larger sensor area with the same resolution, this means that it also has a larger pixel area hence better light collecting capacity for a given aperture compared to Canon G9 X II.Another difference between these two cameras is that Panasonic G9's sensor lacks anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.
Below you can see the G9 and G9 X II sensor size comparison.
As seen above, Panasonic G9 has a 1.9x Larger sensor area than Canon G9 X II. Larger sensors give photographer more control on the depth of field and blurry background compared to smaller sensor when shot in same focal length and aperture.
In this section, we rank and compare Panasonic G9 and Canon G9 X II for five different photography types in order to make your decision process easier in case you are specifically interested in one or more of these areas.Panasonic G9 for Portrait Photography
