The Panasonic Lumix CSC line-up has been expanded with the introduction of the Panasonic Lumix GX9.

The GX9 joins the GX8 and GX80 in the Panasonic GX line-up so to see exactly how the GX9 improves on its predecessors, we thought we'd compare the specs and features of all three models (scroll to the bottom to see the side-by-side spec comparison table).

Starting with the sensor, the GX9 features a 20.3MP sensor which is the same resolution as the one built into the GX8 but the model in the GX9 doesn't have a low pass filter. It's also around 4MP more than the sensor found in the Lumix GX80 (16MP) which also comes without a low pass filter.

The GX9 and GX80 share the same 5-Axis Body I.S. / 5-Axis Dual I.S. (on the GX8 it's 4-Axis Body I.S. / Dual I.S.) and built-in flash makes a return to the GX9, as found on the GX80 but not the GX8.

Screens and viewfinders are up next and we've stepped away from the Free-angle Rear Monitor of the GX8 to replace it with the Tiltable Rear Monitor, as seen on the GX80. Although the resolution is improved with the 3'' touch-screen now featuring 1,240k-dots. The Live View Finder (LVF) is also tiltable, as it was on the GX8, but the resolution is improved with the LVF on the GX9 being a 2,760k-dot equiv. LCD (same as the GX80) rather than a 2,360k-dot OLED.

As for build and size, the GX9 and GX8 both feature an exposure compensation dial but the GX9 is much more similar in size to the GX80 than it is the GX8. Weight-wise, the GX80 is the lightest model out of the three with the GX8 taking the top spot for 'heaviest GX camera'. Although, when you add the optional grip to the new GX9, it's weight will increase more towards what the GX8 is listed at.

Powering the cameras are the DMW-BLG10 batteries on the GX80 and GX9 while the GX8 features a DMW-BLC12 battery type. The GX8 can also capture more images on a full charge with battery life listed at 340 images (LCD) and 320 images (LVF / Power Save LVF mode). On the GX80 you get 290 images (LCD) and 270 images (LVF / Power Save LVF mode) which is slightly higher than the 260 images you can capture when using the GX9's LCD. However, a whopping 900 images can be captured when shooting with the camera's Power Save LVF mode.

As you'd expect from modern cameras, Wi-Fi is built in but the GX9 is the only model to offer Bluetooth connectivity. It's also the only camera to feature the L. Monochrome D Grain Effect in its digital filters which is a great filter for those who are fans of the contrast and feel black and white film had.

Another feature you expect to find on most cameras nowadays is 4K video and where Panasonic is concerned, 4K Photo. All three cameras capture 4K photo at 30fps, with the GX9 adding in auto marking and sequence composition (something you can learn more about in our review).

Continuous shooting is slightly improved on the GX9 with the camera capturing 9fps over the 8fps the GX80 and GX8 are capable of. However, shutter speeds with the mechanical shutter are slightly better on the GX8. The GX8 is also Splash/Dust/Freezeproof - a plus point it has over the GX80 and GX9.

Price-wise, the Panasonic Lumix GX9 will be available from March with an RRP of £699. The older GX80 is currently priced at £499 with a 12-32mm lens and the GX8 can be purchased for £699 with a 12-60mm lens.
