About Functional Skills

What are functional skills qualifications? + −

Functional skills qualifications in maths and English enable learners to develop essential numeracy and literacy skills. Most importantly, the level 2 functional skills are equivalent to GCSEs. Most people take the level 2 exams to get into university to improve employment chances.

Do you offer reformed functional skills initial assessments for training providers and colleges? + −

Yes, we are the only provider to offer free initial assessments for functional skills which can be used to determine RPL for maths and English. We have a dedicated service for further education institutions and training providers looking to support their learners in passing functional skills.

Do you have a free functional skills level 2 course? + −

Yes, you can sign up to a free trial of our functional skills courses by going to the dedicated course page.

What is in your functional skills maths course? + −

The course covers every topic and question type that can come up in the exam. Each topic is covered with video tutorials, practice questions, exam style questions and model solutions. The course also contains a Subject Knowledge Assessment to help you determine which areas you need to work on. Finally, there are over 50 full mock exams, covering all major exam boards, to help you get ready for exam day.

When do I get my results? + −

In general, results for functional skills maths and English examinations can be obtained in as little as 2 working days. However, this varies depending on the time of year and which exam board you use. We provide exams from TQUK, Open Awards and City & Guilds.

Our exams team will always provide you with the exam board which provides the fastest results at the time. If you would like to specify an exam board, please let the exams team know when booking.

How do I prepare for my functional skills exam? + −

Our functional skills course materials are the very best things you can use to prepare for the exam. You can also make use of our free materials and past papers that we provide to learners.

Can I re-sit my functional skills exam? + −

Yes, you can resit your exam. Our resit support team will contact you to guide you through booking and preparing for a resit. In most cases our learners pass first time, so hopefully you won’t have to use our resit service.

Will my employer accept this qualification? + −

Our examinations are Ofqual regulated so are universally accepted as level 2 qualifications that are equivalent to GCSE grade C/4.

Our examinations are Ofqual regulated so are universally accepted as level 2 qualifications that are equivalent to GCSE grade C/4.

What is the pass mark for functional skills maths level 2? + −

The pass mark can vary from exam to exam. The functional skills maths level 2 pass mark is usually around 50% to 60% for open awards, but boundaries can vary between exam boards too.

Yes, you can sign up to the free version of our level 2 courses, and get access to free resources, mock exams and the Subject Knowledge Assessments for both maths and English.

Do you offer City and Guilds functional skills? + −

Yes, we offer City & Guilds functional skills resources and exams. We also have online functional skills exams for Open Awards and TQUK. We offer resources for all the other major exam boards including Edexcel (Pearson), AQA, NCFE and others.

Is Pass Functional Skills UK based? + −

Yes, we run all our exams in the UK. Pass Functional Skills UK exams can be taken anywhere in the UK as they are delivered online.
