Translation techniques are never getting old; translation is a classic method in the process of learning languages. The trigger under personal motto that NOT WORDS, BUT MEANING led to write this paper and we are also fully aware that people understand speeches, but not WORDS. This study investigates the use of translation method, technique, and structure in learning any languages (particularly Mongolian to English vice versa) by focusing on specialized or professional translations. The objectives of this study are: i. to try to introduce systematic approaches how to translate from source language to the targeted one, why the translation is playing in main role in languages, how the meanings are shown by words structurally and grammatically, ii. To give more simple ideas on grammatical structure and lexical families for translating materials tailored to the communication needs of students, being passionate for translations at the universities by combining cultural and language differences based on contrastive and comparative, parallel linguistic researches on translation. For this purpose, as the researcher and author of this academic paper, this is aimed for applying much easier and simpler ways to the students, beginner for sophisticated translations; so that instructors and learners at the universities may understand well on creating own much optimal translations. In general understanding of translations, this is a process of conveying the source meaning to the targeted language with the same ideas as informed. Certainly for translation, we need to have excellent knowledge of grammars, lexical families (word choice), sentence structures, order of context, and so forth, however, mother language is always fundamental influence to translate any speeches or documents. Hence, this academic paper is based on authentic cases and translation barriers of students at universities, targeting on how to have systematic approaches on written translations.

Abstract Translation plays an important role in communication among people. It is special type of communication which is accompanied by many challenges, because the translator has to convey the message into another language and readers. Translation has become independent discipline in the last three decades of 20th century and it has its own scholars, theories and schools all over the world. The study has aimed at realizing the difficulties of translation process and the reasons behind them to raise the competency of the novice translators so as to present high quality translation. This paper has used analytical descriptive approach and chosen the questionnaire to collect the data. The questionnaire has distributed to the sample of the study, this sample contains 40 participants from the translation teaching staffs and translators. The answers of the participants in the questionnaire are 54.03% strongly agree and 32.30% agree. The participants’ response in the questionnaire verifies the 7 hypotheses of this study. The important findings of this study that the new translators had weak knowledge on the concept, theories and strategies of translation, also the novice translators were unable to indentify translation problems and how to overcome these problems. The study has recommended the necessity of training the new translators to realize translation problems and how to overcome them. Also the new translator has to study the translation theories and its strategies. Besides be trained in choosing the suitable equivalence in the TL. The study also has recommended avoiding literal translation so as translation looks natural (the target readers not feel it is translation). The study has suggested further researches in the written translation strategies and specialized translation such as legal or scientific translation.

With this paper we aim to refer to the speculation on innovating university students’ teaching styles in ESP (English for Specific Purposes) classes of the School of Fine Arts and the School of Pedagogy, Department of Primary Education of the University of Western Macedonia in Florina and the School of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Department of Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering in Kozani. It is generally admitted that the Greek students entering the university are already familiar with at least two foreign European languages, according to the educational system’s standards, one being English, so they are mature enough to discover mediation techniques and develop their metalinguistic skills in translation/interpreting fields. Therefore, we decided to introduce translation assignments from English to Greek as a means of improving the students’ reading skills in the foreign language and understanding of academic and scientific texts and apprehension of terminology deriving from their fields. All the above were implemented both during the teaching sessions and in the final assessment. Within this framework, on the one hand we tried to help students understand and familiarize them with the meaning and appropriate use of the terminology of their own scientific fields in both the English and Greek language and on the other hand we attempted to stir the students’ interest in learning and researching the English bibliography of their discipline. Our aim was to encourage students to increase their interest in Greek terminology and produce scientific texts in proper Greek. A psychometric questionnaire was prepared and distributed through the e-class to all the students that had opted for the translation assignment. We wanted to motivate students to live more of their lives in English without forgetting their Greek identity, communicate their attitude towards translation through the questionnaire, and improve their language skills while being at the same time free from stress of translating texts as an examination task. To this end, even though we had to face various problems such as multi level classes or reluctant participation in the lecture process, we partially put grammar aside, reintroduced translation as a teaching method where necessary, assisted students to develop a critical view towards various sources (translation machines & Greek<>English web dictionaries), and conducted an amount of experimentation described in this paper. Apart from the use of the e-class, to the aid of the teacher-students communication and the distribution of English academic and scientific extracts, the completion of the translation task had as a prerequisite the participation in an oral interview. The material was mostly assigned individually and pair work was the only other form of work that was permitted. In the latter case a larger piece of translation material was assigned. The results of the questionnaires in discussion demonstrated a differentiation of attitudes amongst students belonging to different departments and along with the oral interviews comments consisted a profile for each student’s translation problems, a profile useful to the teacher in order to deduct conclusions about problematic areas in the students’ L2 acquisition.

This study aims to observe the development of translation studies through three concepts of descriptive translation studies; product-based, process-based, and functionalbased translation studies. The readers are introduced to some famous translation scholars including their view of translation studies. At the further discussions, this study lets the readers to acknowledge the main issues on translation studies, focusing on the debate of equivalence versus variations in intertextual texts analysis. Some tendencies of variations, such as different grammar and sentence structure, diglossia leakage, and pragmatic consideration are also presented to present to what extent variations occur during investigation processes. Therefore, regarding those tendencies, this study is closed by the description of Matthiessen's proposals about points of consideration to construct a parameter to measure meaning variations. This study may help those who are interested to conduct translation researches and help them by giving options of which theories is beneficial to their analysis.
