The Washington Capitals are looking to win four in a row tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers. This is the final Caps home game before they go on a lengthy road trip. For a team that has mostly seen playoff opponents the final month of the regular season, the Flyers come into this one in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division with a 23-38-11 record with 57 points. A golden opportunity to get two points if they can avoid the trap game.

At the start of the month it looked like the Caps were a sure lock for the second wild card. But now with three wins in a row they’re just four points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins, who they took down on Saturday. The Caps are 40-22-10 with 90 points. They’re five points back of the Boston Bruins, who they beat on Sunday so right now third in the Metropolitan Division looks a lot more doable.

Plus its extra reasons to root against Pittsburgh.

You gotta avoid the powerhouses like the Florida Panthers. Facing the New York Rangers would be much better for the Caps considering the Rangers like Tom Wilson so much they’ll focus on him and not the play on the ice.

The Caps are 1-2-0 against the Flyers this season so this game could also be a trap game. However, the Caps are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games against the Flyers and have outscored them 36-24 during that stretch which began on March 7, 2021.

During this span, John Carlson leads the Caps with 13 points with two goals and 11 assists, while Alex Ovechkin leads the team with six goals. Ilya Samsonov is 6-1-0 in his career against the Flyers with a 2.37 goals against average and a .920 save percentage.
