SManning S I am looking at an MTB bike that only comes with a Pinion C1.12 gearbox. The manufacturer will not substitute the C1.12 gearbox with anything else. I have been reading about the differences between the P1.18 and the C1.12. Once I get the bike, I can personally install the P1.18 box and sell off the C1.12, but this will cost me some money and effort to make the switch. I am trying to determine if the gear differences between the C1.12 and the P1.18 (17.7% vs 11.5% steps between the gears) are worth the time, money, and effort. #1 · Nov 27, 2020 I am looking at an MTB bike that only comes with a Pinion C1.12 gearbox. If it helps you to decide, 12 gears is plenty for me and I never find myself wishing I had closer gear steps. If you think about it, we have done pretty well with 12-speed drivetrains that are now the equivalent in gear range to 2x10s, the oft-mentioned drawback to the 1x10 and 1x 11 systems. The Pinion is not exactly equivalent to something like the SRAM Eagle because it has even gear steps but the range is huge. The low gear is ultra-low and the high gear gives you plenty of speed, depending on your chainring and rear cog. I would highly recommend a Gates Carbon CDX belt drive as well. In for a penny, in for a pound and the Pinion (and Rohloff) are to belt drives what peanut butter is to jelly. The C1.12 also has a smaller Q factor and weighs considerably less. #3 · Nov 27, 2020 Thank you. Thank you! This helps in the decision. Insert Quotes Post Reply
