Present Perfect + for and since
Using the present perfect, we can define a period of time before now by considering its duration, with for + a period of time, or by considering its starting point, with since + a point in time. Muốn biết cách sử dụng Present Perfect (thì hiện tại hoàn thành) với từ FOR chúng ta hãy nghĩ về một thời kỳ nào đó trong quá khứ trước đây. Đối với từ SINCE thì chúng ta hãy nghĩ đến ở điểm bắt đầu của một sự việc. Trang Chủ

For + a period of time Một thời kỳ nào đó trước đây

  • for six years (6 năm),
  • for a week (một tuần),
  • for a month (một tháng),
  • for hours (một giờ),
  • for two hours (hai giờ) .
    Ví dụ:
  • I have worked here for five years.
  • She has lived here for twenty years.
  • We have taught at this school for a long time.
  • Alice has been married for three months.
  • They have been at the hotel for a week.

Since + a point in time Bắt đầu ở trong một thời điểm nào đó

  • since this morning (sáng nay),
  • since last week (tuần trước),
  • since yesterday (hôm qua),
  • since I was a child (hồi còn nhỏ),
  • since Wednesday (hôm thứ Tư),
  • since 2 o'clock (hồi 2 giờ).
    Ví dụ:
  • I have worked here since 1990.
  • She has lived here since 1980.
  • We have taught at this school since 1965
  • Alice has been married since March 2nd.
  • They have been at the hotel since last Tuesday.

Lưu ý:

  • For and since can both be used with the past perfect. (For và Since cả hai có thể dùng trong thì quá khứ hoàn thành)
  • Since can only be used with perfect tenses, for can also be used with the simple past.
    • SINCE chỉ có thể sự dụng trong các thì hoàn thành, và FOR cũng có thể sử dụng trong quá khứ đơn)
