Threaded Mode R-XSR range less than XM+??? kaitylynn I will not comply Rep: 65 ***** VIP Pole Dancer Popular Member Posting Freak Quad Builder Tree Hugger Whoopee Owner Posts: 3,280 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 #1 18 Sep 2018, 01:32 (This post was last modified: 18 Sep 2018, 01:32 by kaitylynn.) So I have been a huge proponent of the FrSky XM+ receivers as many here know.  Simple to install and decent range, 400+ meters without issue and still above "warning levels" I purchased an R-XSR for testing months ago and never got around to installing it.  With BF-OSD, the need was less than pressing.  With the creation of The Rover, I decided to utilize it.  Flashed to fresh FW, bound and installed.  Smooth enough, just one wire required "extra" attention. Slowly, testing of The Rover has found me moving further and further out.  Today I flew to the 250 meter point and received a low signal alarm.  Strange, that point is usually fine with the XM+...launch The Japalura and sure enough, no issue to that point...like RSSI of 70 which is typical. Not sure what the difference is, but an RSSI of below 45 is not normal for that flight path and is not repeated when flying another craft to that point. So I guess two questions: What are some typical RSSI values other pilots experience at a clear 250 meters? Any thoughts on why such a difference between my R-XSR and my XM+? SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun!  Addicted :) Reply Login to remove this ad | Register Here SnowLeopardFPV Member Rep: 814 ******* Pole Dancer Popular Member Posting Freak Tree Hugger Whoopee Owner Posts: 21,701 Threads: 616 Likes Received: 9,288 in 6,885 posts Likes Given: 1,450 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 814 #2 18 Sep 2018, 02:28 No help I'm afraid but I have seen other people complaining about the range of the R-XSR in YouTube videos before, so you're certainly not the first. I don't know what the solution is but it would be good to know from someone if there is one. Mine hasn't been taken out very far and I've not yet flown it with RSSI enabled in the OSD so I have no idea (yet) what type of RSSI values it gives out even on close proximity flights. I'm only flying freestyle and I've never had a failsafe, but it does give me pause sometimes, especially if I'm deep in the folliage! But once you have the R9M system installed, you won't have to worrySmile Dude, where's my quad? It is about the limits of the VTX on 200mw, so it is not hard to stay within range when the video starts giving me the warning signs. Trading off the little bit of range for on radio telemetry. Having not had it before, it took me a bit to find a use for tele, but now that I have started to feel my through it a little...it is turning out to be pretty cool! I've not in a position to actually watch this at the moment so don't know what the consensus actually is, but it was uploaded yesterday by AndyRC... (the "naked" wire sticking out at the end) It should be between 23-24mm Also try updating the firmware to the latest see if that helps? Will know more once there is an HD cam mounted...whenever that arrives! Will check that in a few.  They are the same antenna as come preinsatalled on the XM+ units...at least they look like they are. Updated the FW early on.  I do not think I ever flew it the XSR with whatever FW comes stock. Will keep posted on my findings! Yeah, my original comment on the crossfire was more in jest than an indictment of the R9M.  With that said, unless things change the big  CF is still the mac daddy of long range.
