The issue with M1 on third party devices, (game controllers in Steam, gaming mice, etc) is they use outdated kext extensions that Apple doesn't allow anymore for security reasons. So you will get basic functionality, but the minute you try to use those extra buttons, you are out of luck. Logitech and all the others have to update the drivers. As I said elsewhere, given marketshare, don't hold your breath.

I have the same problem with an existing wheel not working with M1 chipset. Do you know more about what the problem is? And whether it’s going to get fixed? It should be able to work.
