GTIOwnerWannabe G Hello guys, Just wanted to share a problem of mine I encountered, and also provide a possible solution. So Im currently driving 2007 1.4 Petrol Polo (9n3), soon reaching 325 000km driven. Now to the issue, there was a noticeable rattling sound coming from the engine that was present for a few years already. At first I didnt notice it as when driving the sound was kind of hidden, but later it got more loud to the point you could clearly hear it from inside of the car. The rattling could be heard most clearly during acceleration, and when I was talking about it with others the suggestions were mostly that the oil level/pressure could be low. Now I know the levels and pressure were ok as I had oil change just few weeks back, and the pressure was also tested with nothing out of the ordinary popping up, so this was out of the question. Then I got another suggestion, that it could be loose or not functioning valves. So I got in touch with my mechanic, came there, he had a few listens and then confirmed that it could be the issue, but at this point we werent sure this was the case, since the symptoms could have been just company to something much nastier happening inside. So we run diagnostics, everything seemed fine so after confirming nothing major was wrong, I left the car there and waited for him to call me back about what he found. After 3 days he called me its done, and as expected the issue was with the valves, or rather with the valve lifters. Apparently few of them didnt work properly which was causing the rattling sound and small oil leakage from under the oil cap. In the end he changed 8 out of 16 valve lifters, together with valve rockers. The repair costs reached 280€ (parts included), as he also changed the exhaust manifold, which wasnt connected to this problem but was in a really bad shape. I decided to post this to help anyone with diagnosing symptoms of their car, since when I was searching, I didnt see anything connected to valves in the engine. Hope this helps you out! #1 · Nov 10, 2021 Hello guys, Just wanted to share a problem of mine I encountered, and also provide a possible solution. Thanks for putting this up here! I believe it's gonna help someone out #3 · Nov 10, 2021 Just Adding to these; If your Volkswagen Polo makes a loud noise when you accelerate, it is quite possible that the alternator belt is the reason of your issue. You will need to establish if this noise shows up suddenly and if it can stop as it started. The alternator belt is a wearing part that is used to get power to the secondary components of your Volkswagen Polo’s engine and although it is less vital than the timing belt it can induce engine troubles if it fails. This sound may be a indicator of a slackened belt, in which case the tensioner roller or its wear and tear may be to blame. In any case, check the condition of your belt and its tension. #6 · Nov 10, 2021 Thanks for the great tips! This one in particular is something I will definitely have to check out on my car as well. I mean I dont hear any rattle anymore but the electronics seem to be a little....weird sometimes. I would suspect battery but I bought a new one just recently and the weirdness just persists. 0 Reply #4 · Nov 10, 2021 Some Rattles are also caused by turbo. If you have a power loss that comes with the rattling noise when you accelerate with your Volkswagen Polo, it is plausible that your turbo is failing and some of its components are at the end of their life. Check it and swap it if it is the reason, otherwise you risk clogging your engine in the long run. #5 · Nov 10, 2021 If, on the other hand, you have the feeling that the more you gain speed, the more your noise at acceleration on the car gets loud, then you will have to look at the rolling parts of your vehicle. Indeed, if this loud noise does not surface when you iddle, it is necessarily related to your transmission, and, in general, to your wheels. The most common reason is the state of your bearings, so make sure to check their state to make sure it is not the reason of this loud noise when you accelerate. #7 · Nov 10, 2021 (Edited) otherwise you risk clogging your engine in the long run. twitch tv activate Insert Quotes Post Reply
