I searched and I found this great thread here. But its so old that none of the links work still. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1029352 Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Jan 9, 2011 Do you have standard or HID (xenon projector) headlights? #4 · Jan 10, 2011 I have the standard headlights 0 Reply #3 · Jan 10, 2011 diy I have the HID i also tried finding some links but most of them were dead do you know how to change the HID ones? thanks #5 · Jan 10, 2011 Low beams on standard: Pull small cover on rear of headlight housing, turn socket anti-clockwise a partial turn, pull out socket, bulb pulls straight out....reverse process to replace. Don't touch new bulb glass with your fingers..if you do, wipe it clean...hold with paper when putting it in. High beam standard: Same process, but behind large cover. HID low beams: According to Bentley manual (I've not done this...don't have HID's on my Passat), it involves removing the entire headlight housing first, which involves removing the front bumper before that!! I won't go further right now unless you're really interested..let me know and I'll give you more details. BUT, in general, HID lights (which I have on my Audi) often fail due to the control units (ballast) also inside the headlight housing and involves the same disassembly. High beams remove about the same way as standard lights. Cover has c-clip to remove on one side and fits into a latch guide on the other side. Turn socket anti-clockwise and remove. Bulb pulls straight out...then reverse to replace. #6 · Jan 10, 2011 thank you very much.. Ill try tom. #7 · Jan 10, 2011 Here book mark this one http://home.comcast.net/~slashpub/headlights/ReplacingHeadlightBulbs.pdf #8 · Jan 19, 2011 successfully changed. Thanks! I felt like my hands were going to break off bc working in that tight space and the NY COLD:biggrinsanta: #9 · Feb 1, 2011 So ahh...one of the rings that you twist the bulb into pulled off the housing...whats the easiest way to fix that besides a new headlight??
