Rule C-812 Primary Amines (Groups Containing One Nitrogen Atom)
812.1 - Primary monoamines, RNH2, are named by adding the suffix "-amine" to (a) the name of the radical R or (b) the name of the parent compound RH. Method (a) is generally preferred for derivatives of simple parent compounds, and method (b) for complex cyclic compounds.
The following are examples of trivial names which are retained:Examples to Rule C-812.1
812.2 - Primary amines, RNH2, in which R is a heterocyclic nucleus itself containing nitrogen, are named by adding (a) the suffix "-amine" to the name of the radical, (b) the suffix "-amine" to the name of the parent compound with elision of terminal "e" (if present), or (c) the prefix "amino-" to the name of the parent compound.
The following is an example of trivial names and numbering which are retained:Examples to Rule C-812.2
812.3 - Primary monoamines, RNH2, in which R is an alkyl group substituted terminally by a cyclic group are named (a) by adding the suffix "-amine" to the name of the radical, (b) for complex compounds by conjunctive nomenclature, or (c) as substituted cyclic compounds.
