Rule C-841 Hydroxylamines and their Derivatives

841.1 - Compounds RNH-OH are named by prefixing the name of the radical R to "hydroxylamine '' or, when another substituent is present having priority for citation as principal group, by attaching the prefix "hydroxyamino-" to the name of the parent compound RH.

Examples to Rule C-841.1

841.2 - Compounds are named as (a) alkoxyamino derivatives of the compound , (b) as N,O-substituted hydroxylamines, (c) as alkoxyamines (even if is hydrogen), or (d), if the group has a substituent with priority for citation as principal group, by use of the prefix "aminooxy-".

841.3 - Acyl derivatives RCO-NH-OH and NH2-O-COR are named as N-hydroxy derivatives of amides and as O-acylhydroxylamines, respectively. Alternatively the former may be named as hydroxamic acids (see Rule C-451.3).

841.4 - Further substitution on the nitrogen or oxygen atoms of hydroxylamine is denoted by prefixes for the substituents, with O- and/or N-locants. Alternatively, compounds and may be named as derivatives of the alkoxyamine or of the hydroxamic acid (see Rule C-451.3).

N-Hydroxy-N-methylacetamide (see Rule C-841.3)

or N-Methylacetohydroxamic acid (see Rule C-451.3)
