I had my 2006 S40 T5's alternator replaced after I got the "POWER SYSTEM SERVICE URGENT" warning. I took it to my local auto electrician (not Volvo dealer) and he tested the alternator and said it needed replacing. He got me a aftermarket alternator (not original Volvo) and fitted it. After fitment was complete the message still came up and the alternator was not charging the battery. He phoned the Volvo dealer and apparently they told him the vehicle must go in to get a "software update". Does anyone know if this is standard procedure? Is it possible that software can prevent a alternator from making charge? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I hope the aftermarket one is compatible. I've seen people cheap out on aftermarket ones and wind up buying the Volvo one. VIDA is also needed to test it, so I'm not sure how he tested it himself.
